Various Artists
A compilation album comprises tracks, which may be previously released or unreleased, usually from several separate recordings by either one or several performers. If by one artist, then generally the tracks were not originally intended for release together as a single work, but may be collected together as a greatest hits album or box set. If from several performers, there may be a theme, topic, time period, or genre which links the tracks, or they may have been intended for release as a single work—such as a tribute album. When the tracks are by the same recording artist, the album may be referred to as a retrospective album or an anthology. Schoolly D (album)
''Schoolly D'' is the self-titled debut album by rapper Schoolly D. The album was released on Schoolly D Records in 1985 and in 1990 on Jive Records, and was produced by Schoolly D and DJ Code Money. It features three singles: "Put Your Filas On", " P.S.K. What Does It Mean?" and "Gucci Time". The album cover featured drawings of a b-boy set against a yellow background. The speech bubbles used proxies for swear words, such as "sheet" and "flucking". The latter was sampled in E-40's song "Stilettos & Jeans" featuring Bobby V, taken from his 2010 album '' Revenue Retrievin': Night Shift''. The album is considered to be the predecessor of gangster rap and a major influence on the first albums of Ice-T and Public Enemy as well as an influence and sample source for Beastie Boys and countless others. Reception Simon Reynolds of '' Melody Maker'' described the debut in 1986 as "the most extreme hardcore hip-hop record I have ever encountered." and that "It is so far from r'n'b a ...

UTFO
UTFO (an abbreviation for Untouchable Force Organization) was an American old-school hip hop group from Brooklyn, New York City. The group consisted of Kangol Kid (born Shaun Shiller Fequiere; August 10, 1966 – December 18, 2021), Educated Rapper (born Jeffrey Campbell; July 4, 1963 – June 3, 2017), Doctor Ice (born Fred Reeves on March 2, 1966), and Mix Master Ice (born Maurice Bailey on April 22, 1965). The group's best-known single is " Roxanne, Roxanne," a widely acclaimed hip hop classic, which created a sensation on the hip hop scene soon after it was released and inspired a record-high of 25 answer records in a single year (Roxanne Wars), with estimates ultimately spawning over 100. The most notable remake was done by Marley Marl's protégée Roxanne Shanté, which led to hip hop's first rap beef. "Roxanne, Roxanne" was originally the B-side of the lesser-known single "Hangin' Out". Due to personal issues, Educated Rapper was absent for its second effort, ''Skeezer P ...

Newcleus
Newcleus was an American electro and old school hip hop group that gained popularity in the early 1980s. The group is primarily known for its 12-inch single "Jam-On's Revenge" (re-released as "Jam on Revenge (The Wikki-Wikki Song)" (1983)) and "Jam on It" (1984), which began as an anti-rap joke, according to founding member DJ and producer Ben Cenac. At the time (1981) we were going by the name Positive Messenger and were making music that had a purpose, either messages of love or faith or talking about the conditions of the world. However, we were still doing lots of Hip-Hop jams with our DJ crew Jam-On Productions. So, one of our DJs, Salvador Smooth, kept nagging me to do a Rap song. Having come out of Hip-Hop street battles in Brooklyn in the ’70s, I didn't really think much of the Rap records that were playing on the radio, so I figured as a joke I would make a parody jam ... I threw in an idea from an ventthat actually had happened in the ’70s, when a DJ who we had jus ...
