1985 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 1985 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 91st staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board. St. Martin's were the defending champions. Ballyhale Shamrocks won the championship after a 4–18 to 3–13 defeat of Glenmore in the final. It was their sixth championship title overall and their first title in two championship seasons. Ballyhale Shamrocks GAA
Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. A third club, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. Because of the situation facing both clubs they decided to amalgamate in 1972 under the new name of Ballyhale Shamrocks. Frank Holohan
Frank Holohan (born 6 March 1957) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a left corner-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Holohan joined the team during the 1981-82 National League and was a regular member of the team until his retirement from inter-county hurling after six seasons. During that time he won three Leinster winners' medal and two National Hurling League winners' medal. He also won one All-Ireland winners' medal as a non-playing substitute. At club level Holohan is a three-time All-Ireland medalist with Ballyhale Shamrocks. Glenmore GAA
Glenmore is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1888 and has achieved hurling success at county, provincial and national level. Glenmore has also provided the Kilkenny intercounty team with several top players. History Glenmore first distinguished itself in Kilkenny on the football field, and it was only in the 1940s that hurling started to take over. Early success came in 1953, when the hurlers won the County Junior Championship. By the 1960s, Glenmore were among the top sides in the county, narrowly losing out to Bennettsbridge in the 1960 and 1964 county finals. Things soon took a turn for the worse, however, when the club was relegated to Junior status in 1967. They reached the final at that grade in 1968, but lost out to Johnstown.
