60 Metres
60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'ready', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. This will enable them to start faster. The final instruction is the firing of the starter's pistol. Upon hearing this the sprinters stride forwards from the blocks. The 60 metres was an Olympic event in the 1900 and 1904 Summer Games but was removed from the schedule thereafter. Attila Kovács (born September 2, 1960 in Szekszárd) is a former Hungarian sprinter. He is an 11-time Hungarian 100 metre champion, and a 4-time 200 metre champion. Best performances * 100 m: 10.09 (+0.3) in Miskolc (1987) * 200 m: 20.11 (+0.7) in Miskolc (1987) He also won the 60 metre Indoor title 3 times. In 1984, he finished 2nd in 100 metres in the Friendship Games in Moscow behind Osvaldo Lara of Cuba. In 1985 he was European cup B 100 Metre winner. Clayton Kearney
Clayton Kearney (born 11 April 1964) is a former Australian sprinter and professional fitness coach. Sprinting career During his career Kearney won the world beach sprint title among other Australian titles. In 1986 he won the 200m National Track Championship and in that same year competed on the Grand Prix International circuit throughout Europe, Great Britain, Canada and the United States, winning most of his races, including five national titles, while racing against the likes of Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis and Linford Christie. After coming back from major injury, Kearney recorded a 100 metre time of 9.9sec hand timed, a 10.16sec electronic (wind assisted) in 1988, and in 1990 set a new professional world record of 11.82sec over 120 metres. Melvin Lattany
Melvin Lattany (born August 10, 1959) is a former American track athlete. He was one of the world's dominating sprinters in the early 1980s. Early years Lattany attended Glynn Academy, where he was a standout sprinter in track. He also practiced football, where although he was primarily a wide receiver, he also played as a safety, cornerback, punt returner, kickoff returner and was the backup placekicker. He accepted a track scholarship from the University of Georgia, where he established a new Men's World Junior Record over 100 metres on July 30, 1978. Lattany qualified for the 1980 US Olympic team as a 100 metres sprinter and a member of the 4 × 400 metres relay team, but was unable to compete due to the 1980 Summer Olympics boycott. He did however receive one of 461 Congressional Gold Medals awarded to those athletes affected by the boycott.
