The Liga Pro Ecuador Serie A, simply known as the Liga Pro or the Serie A (or the Ecuadorian Serie A to distinguish it from the Italian Serie A and the Brazilian Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Série A), or as Liga Pro Ecuabet for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Ecuador and the highest level of the Ecuadorian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates a system of promotion and relegation with the Ecuadorian Serie B, Serie B, the lower level of the Primera Categoría. The season runs from February to December and is usually contested in multiple stages. While initially not a league, the Serie A has its roots in the national championship between the top teams of Ecuador's two regional leagues. Club Deportivo El Nacional (until 2018 ''Club Especializado de Alto Rendimiento El Nacional'') is an Ecuadorian sports club based in Quito, known best for their professional football team. The team currently plays in the Serie A, the first-tier football league in the country after gaining promotion in 2022. Manta Sport Club was an Ecuadorian professional football club based in Manta, Ecuador, Manta. Founded in 1915, it spent the majority of its years bouncing between the top-flight Serie A and the Serie B until 1985. Statistically, it is the most successful club from Manta. Club Deportivo Audaz Octubrino is a professional football club from Machala, Ecuador that currently plays in the Segunda Categoría, the third tier of Football in Ecuador. Its stadium is called " 9 de Mayo" and has a capacity of about 10,000 people. History The best ever success for Audaz came about in the 1987–88 season with president Teofilo Oyola Cevallos, when they finished 3rd in the Ecuadorian league, only losing out to Barcelona (Guayaquil) and Filanbanco ( Milagro, Guayas). That season Audaz was renowned as especially strong at home, beating, among others, El Nacional, Barcelona and Emelec.
