1984–85 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1984–85 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began in October 1984 and concluded with the 1985 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 30, 1985 at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This was the 38th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 91st year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. Seven teams from ECAC Hockey left after the previous year to form a new conference, Hockey East. Hockey East and the WCHA formed an agreement where games played between their respective conferences would count towards the standings in each conference. This arrangement would continue for five year, ending after the 1988–89 season. Joe Louis Arena
Joe Louis Arena was an arena in Downtown Detroit. Completed in 1979 at a cost of US$57 million as a replacement for Olympia Stadium, it sat adjacent to TCF Center, Cobo Center on the bank of the Detroit River and was accessible by the Joe Louis Arena station on the Detroit People Mover. The venue was named after former heavyweight champion Boxer (boxing), boxer Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. It was the home of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League and the second oldest NHL venue after Madison Square Garden until the start of the 2017–18 NHL season. Joe Louis Arena was owned by the city of Detroit, and operated by Olympia Entertainment, a subsidiary of team owner Ilitch Holdings. In April 2017, the Red Wings hosted their final game at Joe Louis Arena; the venue was succeeded by Little Caesars Arena. The arena closed on July 29, 2017. Michigan State Spartans Men's Ice Hockey
The Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Michigan State University (MSU). The team plays at the Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan, on the MSU campus. The current head coach is Adam Nightingale, who took over coaching duties on May 3, 2022, after Danton Cole was fired. Michigan State currently competes in the Big Ten Conference. The MSU ice hockey program has seven CCHA regular season championships and 11 CCHA Tournament titles. MSU has also won 12 Great Lakes Invitational titles. The Spartans have been in the NCAA tournament 23 times, with nine Frozen Four appearances and three national titles ( 1966, 1986, and 2007). The Lake Superior State Lakers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Lake Superior State University. The Northeastern Huskies men's ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. The Beanpot is an annual ice hockey tournament among the four major US college hockey schools of the Boston, Massachusetts area, usually held during the first two Mondays in February at TD Garden. The tournament has been held annually since the 1952–53 season and has been held at its current location since 1996. The tournament gives the winner bragging rights over its cross-town rivals, and the quest for this highly sought-after trophy is contested in front of sell-out crowds from all four schools. The Brown Bears men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Brown University. History Early years The first New Hampshire ice hockey team played in January 1925, winning its first two games in a contest held in Lewiston, Maine. A year later, under the stewardship of Ernest Christensen, UNH played its first home game at the UNH ice rink, an outdoor facility that was completely dependent on cold weather for its surface. Ledyard Bank Classic
The Ledyard Bank Classic (formerly the Auld Lang Syne Classic) is a college Division I men's ice hockey tournament played before New Years at the Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire, the home arena for Dartmouth College. The tournament was first held in 1978 and was usually played on the final two days of December every year until 1988. Since then it was played infrequently (though with no more than a two-year gap between events) until 2008 when it returned to an annual schedule which it continues to possess. In 2002 the holiday tournament changed its name from 'Auld Lang Syne' to 'Ledyard Bank' due to sponsorship. The 2016 tournament featured a predetermined schedule, as opposed to an elimination format, which prevented a traditional championship game.
