1984 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship
The 1984 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship was the third annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship of NCAA women's college lacrosse. The championship game was played at Nickerson Field in Boston, Massachusetts during May 1984. The Temple Owls won their first championship after defeating the Maryland Terrapins in the final, 6–4. The leading scorer for the tournament, for the second straight year, was Karen Emas, from Delaware, with 20 goals. Marie Schmucker, from Temple, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Qualification Until 1985, there was only one NCAA championship; a Division III title was added in 1985 and a Division II title in 2001. Nickerson Field
Nickerson Field is an outdoor athletic stadium in the Northeastern United States, on the campus of Boston University (BU) in Boston, Massachusetts. The stadium is owned by BU, and is the home field for some Boston University Terriers athletics programs, including soccer and lacrosse. It was also the home of the Boston University Terriers football team until the program was discontinued following the 1997 season. The stadium is located on the site of Braves Field, the former home ballpark of the Boston Braves, a major league baseball team in the National League; the franchise relocated to Milwaukee in March 1953, and relocated again in 1966, becoming the Atlanta Braves. The New Hampshire Wildcats, or 'Cats, are the American intercollegiate athletic teams representing the University of New Hampshire (UNH), located in Durham. The wildcat is the school's official mascot, the colors are UNH Blue and white. Linda Catherine Schmidt (November 27, 1958 – March 12, 2021) was an American mechanical engineer whose interests included the engineering design process, the use of formal grammars in design, and engineering education. She was a faculty member in the A. James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Life Schmidt was born on November 27, 1958, in Blue Island, Illinois. She studied industrial engineering at Iowa State University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1989 and a master's degree in 1991. Her master's degree research concerned queueing theory, under the mentorship of John Jackman. She next went to Carnegie Mellon University for doctoral study in mechanical engineering, completing her Ph.D. in 1995. Overtime or extra time is an additional period of play specified under the rules of a sport to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. In some sports, this extra period is played only if the game is required to have a clear winner, as in single-elimination tournaments where only one team or players can advance to the next round or win the tournament. The rules of overtime or extra time vary between sports and even different competitions. Some may employ " sudden death", where the first player or team who scores immediately wins the game.
