The 1984 MAC men's basketball tournament took place March 8–10, 1984, at the Rockford MetroCentre in Rockford, Illinois. Miami (OH) defeated , 42–40 in the championship game, to win its second MAC Tournament title. The Redskins earned an automatic bid to the 1984 NCAA tournament as No. 9 seed in the West region. In the round of 48, Miami was defeated by SMU 83–69. Format Only the top seven in the regular season conference standings participated, with the bottom three teams left out. The BMO Center (formerly known as BMO Harris Bank Center and Rockford MetroCentre) is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Rockford, Illinois. It is currently home to the AHL's Rockford IceHogs hockey team. Darrell Hedric
Darrell Hedric (born June 9, 1933) is an American basketball head coach and scout, most noted as the coach of the Miami University (Ohio) basketball team from 1970 to 1984. Early history Hedric was born and raised in Franklin, Ohio. He was a standout on the Franklin Wildcats basketball team. During his senior year, he was recruited to play college basketball at Miami University the following year. Hedric went on to gain his varsity letter in all four years at Miami. After graduation, Hedric played professional basketball for the Akron Goodyear Wingfoots of the National Industrial Basketball League. He was drafted into the United States Navy and served on a destroyer in Antarctica. After serving his country, Hedric once again turned to basketball, taking the head coaching job at Taft High School in Hamilton, Ohio. Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The Mid-American Conference men's basketball tournament is the NCAA Division I postseason single-elimination tournament for the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The winner of the tournament receives the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. As of the next MAC tournament in 2021, the top eight teams in conference play will qualify for the tournament. Since 2000, the MAC Tournament has been held at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland and is planned to be held there through at least 2030. The finals are broadcast on ESPN2 and the semi and quarterfinals are broadcast on Spectrum Sports and ESPN3. 1984 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 1984 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 53 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. It began on March 13, 1984, and ended with the championship game on April 2 in Seattle. A total of 52 games were played. This was the last tournament in which some teams earned first-round byes as the field expanded to 64 teams beginning in the 1985 tournament when each team played in the first round. It was also the second year with a preliminary round; preliminary games would not be played again until 2001. Georgetown, coached by John Thompson, won the national title with an 84–75 victory in the final game over Houston, coached by Guy Lewis.
