Phil Coles
Phillip Walter Coles (20 July 1931 – 28 January 2023) was an Australian sports administrator and canoe sprinter. Competing at the 1960 Rome, 1964 Tokyo, and 1968 Mexico City Olympics, he earned his best finish of ninth in the K-4 1000 m event at the Tokyo games, where he was also the team captain. Coles was a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1982 to 2011 and became an honorary member of that organisation in 2012 after reaching the retirement age of 80. He was the Australian Olympic Committee Secretary General from 1985 to 1993 and Director of International Relations from 1993 to 1999. Norman "Nugget" Alfred Vale May (14 February 1928 – 11 September 2016) was an Australian radio and television sports broadcaster. His most famous moment was calling " GOLD, GOLD for Australia, GOLD" during the men's 4 × 100 metres medley final in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games. Biography Early life and career May was born in Melbourne on 14 February 1928. His family moved to Sydney when he was three and he was raised in Coogee, a southern suburb of Sydney. Despite losing an eye in an accident at the age of six, he was considered talented at cricket, rugby league and surfing. Kevin Hogan (footballer, Born 1934)
Kevin Hogan (6 October 1934 – 5 November 2019) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Hogan initially played with Benalla "Colts" / Thirds in 1949 in the Benalla & District Football League, then played with Violet Town, making his senior football debut in 1950 as a 15 year old in the Benalla Tungamah Football League. He continued to play with Violet Town until 1953, including their 1952 Benalla Tungamah Football League grand final loss to Benalla, prior to playing with South Melbourne. Hogan was hailed as one of the VFL recruits of the year in 1954! He later played, coached and was on the committee of the Sale Football Club. He also was a journalist for the Gippsland Times and worked for ABC Local Radio in Gippsland for over 50 years. Margaret Fulton
Margaret Isobel Fulton (6 October 1924 – 24 July 2019) was a Scottish-born Australian food and cooking writer, journalist, author and commentator. She was the first of this genre of writers in Australia. Fulton's early recipes encouraged Australians to alter their traditional staple of "meat and three vegetables" and to be creative with food. She encouraged international cuisine from places such as Spain, Italy, India and China. As the cookery editor of the ''Woman's Day'' magazine, she "brought these into Australian homes through her articles." Although she did some television work, Fulton mainly concentrated on writing, because she felt it was her higher talent. Geoff Dymock
Geoffrey Dymock (born 21 July 1945) is a former Australian international cricketer. He played in 21 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals between 1974 and 1980. On his debut, he took five wickets in the second innings against New Zealand in Adelaide in 1974. He was the third bowler to dismiss all eleven opposition players in a Test match, and remains one of only six bowlers to have achieved this. Dymock captained the Queensland cricket team for 9 matches between 1980 and 1982. In the words of Gideon Haigh Geoff Dymock would have played more Tests for Australia in an era less blessed with fast-bowling talent. Graham Cornes
Graham Studley Cornes Order of Australia, OAM (born 31 March 1948 in Melbourne, Victoria) is a former Australian rules footballer and coach, as well as a media personality. From 1995 until early 2013, Cornes co-hosted a weekday drivetime sports program that he hosts on Adelaide radio station FiveAA, 5AA, first with K. G. Cunningham, Ken "KG" Cunningham and, following Cunningham's retirement in 2008, with Stephen Rowe (footballer), Stephen Rowe. In 2012 he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Ronald John Yates, AM (died 25 October 2012), was a former CEO of Qantas (retired 1986) and a Member of the Order of Australia. Basil Travers
Basil Holmes 'Jika' Travers, , (7 July 1919 – 18 December 1998) was an Australian sportsman and educator who played in the England national rugby union team and played first-class cricket with Oxford University. He was Headmaster of the Sydney Church of England Grammar School (Shore) from 1959 to 1984. In 1983 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia. Military career Travers served with Australian forces in New Guinea in World War II as a brigade major. He was awarded the OBE for his service.
