1983 Men's World Open Squash Championship
The 1983 Canadian Club Men's World Open Squash Championship is the men's edition of the 1983 World Open, which serves as the individual world championship for squash players. The event took place in Munich in West Germany from 1 December to 6 December 1983. Jahangir Khan won his third consecutive World Open title, defeating Chris Dittmar in the final. World Open (squash)
The World Squash Championships are squash events for men and women organised by the Professional Squash Association. The men's event was first held in 1976 in London, England and the women's was inaugurated in 1976 in Brisbane, Australia. Overview The British Open had for many years been generally considered to be the sport's effective world championship, and this continued to be the case until the World Open (now called World Championship) was established. The women's World Championship was held once every two years until the early 1990s, when it became an annual event. The men's event has been held every year since 1976, except for a two-year gap in 2000 and 2001 when it was not held due primarily to difficulties in securing sponsorship. In recent years, the men's World Championship has been part of the PSA World Series. Chris Caird (squash Player)
Christopher William C. Caird (born 26 May 1989) is an English basketball coach and former member of the Great Britain men's national basketball team. College Caird committed to Syracuse University his freshman season, NCAA issues resulted in him changing his team to Marshalltown Community College for that season. He then committed to Santa Clara University. Knee injury shortly before arrival had him sit out the next season and resulted in him completing a second season at Marshalltown Community College. He finished his college career for Drake University from 2013 to 2015. Career Caird first senior games came during the 2007-2008 season as a member of FSu Basket. He played for FSu until 2010 when he move to the United States to attend college. Steve Bowditch (squash Player)
Steven Mangirri Bowditch (born 9 August 1955, in Darwin) is a former leading Australian professional squash player who excelled in both soft and hardball versions of the game. Bowditch started playing squash in 1966 and turned professional in 1977, competing at the 1977 Men's World Open Squash Championship where he lost to Geoff Hunt in the second round. In 1978, he was named fourth member of an Australian team led by Geoff Hunt. He was eliminated in the 3rd round of both the 1979 and 1980 PSA World Championships, losing to semifinalist Mohibullah Khan in 1980. Bowditch captained the Australian team at the 1981 World Team Squash Championships in Sweden (an amateur event but open to professionals) which lost to Pakistan in the final. General Sir Richard Nugent O'Connor, (21 August 1889 – 17 June 1981) was a senior British Army officer who fought in both the First and Second World Wars, and commanded the Western Desert Force in the early years of the Second World War. He was the field commander for Operation Compass, in which his forces destroyed a much larger Italian army – a victory which nearly drove the Axis from Africa, and in turn, led Adolf Hitler to send the Afrika Korps under Erwin Rommel to try to reverse the situation. O'Connor was captured by a German reconnaissance patrol during the night of 7 April 1941 and spent over two years in an Italian prisoner of war camp.
