1982–83 New York Knicks Season
The 1982–83 New York Knicks season was the 37th season for the team in the National Basketball Association (NBA). In the regular season, the Knicks started off by losing their first seven games of the season, but improved during the second half of their schedule. They finished in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with a 44–38 win–loss record, and qualified for the NBA playoffs. New York defeated the New Jersey Nets 2–0 in the best-of-three first round of the playoffs and advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, where they were swept in four games by the eventual NBA champion Philadelphia 76ers. Hubie Brown
Hubert Jude Brown (born September 25, 1933) is an American retired basketball coach and player and a current television analyst. Brown is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year, the honors being separated by 26 years. Brown was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005. Early life and career Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, Brown moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey at age three and was raised there, living in a small apartment building without a telephone. Brown, an only child, has said that his father, Charlie, who worked at the shipyards, was a "demanding man." He graduated from St. Mary of the Assumption High School in 1951. While in high school, St. Mary won state championships in football, basketball and baseball. Atlantic Division (NBA)
The Atlantic Division is one of the three divisions in the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The division consists of five teams, the Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets, the New York Knicks, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors. All teams, except the Raptors, are located on the East Coast of the United States. 1982–83 Atlanta Hawks Season
The 1982–83 Atlanta Hawks season was the franchise's thirty-fourth season in the National Basketball Association and fifteenth in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to the start of the season, the Hawks made a blockbuster trade. The franchise sent John Drew and Freeman Williams to the Utah Jazz in exchange for first round draft pick Dominique Wilkins, a star at the University of Georgia. Wilkins would make an impact as he averaged 17.5 points per game. The Hawks finished in second place with a 43–39 record. In the playoffs, the Hawks would however be eliminated 2–1 by the Boston Celtics. Michael Robert Fratello (born February 24, 1947) is an American sports broadcaster and a professional basketball coach. Fratello is currently an analyst for Fox Sports Ohio for the Cavaliers and a part-time color commentator for Fox Sports West for the Clippers when they play on the road. Kelvin Trent Tucker (born December 20, 1959) is an American retired professional basketball player who played eleven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A shooting guard, Tucker attended the University of Minnesota from 1978 to 1982, leading them to a Big Ten Conference championship in his senior year. He was then selected by the New York Knicks with the 6th overall pick of the 1982 NBA draft. One of the earliest three-point specialists, Tucker represented the Knicks in the first ever Three-point Shootout (1986), making it to the semifinals before being outpaced by Craig Hodges and eventual winner Larry Bird.
