1982–83 Maine Black Bears Men's Basketball Team
The 1982–83 Maine Black Bears men's basketball team represented University of Maine in the 1982–83 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Black Bears, led by twelfth-year head coach Skip Chappelle, played their home games at Memorial Gymnasium and were members of the America East Conference. Jeff Cross was named the conference player of the year. The Black Bears finished the regular season with a record of 12–14, 6–4 in their conference. Skip Chappelle
Thomas Nelson "Skip" Chappelle is an American former college basketball player and coach at the University of Maine. Playing career After starring at Old Town High School and leading the school to the 1957 Maine state championship, Chappelle spent a post-graduate year at Maine Central Institute where he was part of its New England Prep Championship squad. He played his college basketball with Maine where he was a three-time All- Yankee Conference selection, and the school's first player to be selected as a Little All-American. He was the first Black Bear men's basketball player to have his jersey number retired by the university. Chappelle was selected by the St. Louis Hawks in the 11th round of the 1962 NBA draft, becoming the school's first-ever NBA Draft selection. Harrisonburg is an independent city in the Shenandoah Valley region of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. Hamilton is a town in Madison County, New York, United States. The population was 6,690 at the 2010 census. The town is named after American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Cotterell Court
Cotterell Court is a 1,750-seat multi-purpose arena in Hamilton, New York. It was built in 1959 and is home to the Colgate University Raiders basketball and volleyball teams. It is named for Wesley M. Cotterell '19, a two-time letterwinner in basketball and school trustee. The basketball arena was built as the northern half of the William A. Reid Athletic Center, a twin barrel-vaulted complex which also houses Starr Rink. The complex is located on the western side of campus next to Andy Kerr Stadium and across Broad Street from Huntington Gymnasium, the school's former athletics facility. The hardwood was replaced in 2016 for the first time since the venue's opening. The gym has bleacher seating on three sides, with the main sides being the east and west sides and a much shorter section on the north side.
