The Yukon Legislative Assembly (french: Assemblée législative du Yukon) is the legislative assembly for Yukon, Canada. Unique among Canada's Provinces and territories of Canada, three territories, the Yukon Legislative Assembly is the only territorial legislature which is organized along political party lines. In contrast, in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, their legislative assemblies are elected on a Non-partisan democracy, non-partisan basis and operate on a consensus government model. Iain MacKay (born 1942) is a Canadian former politician, who was the first leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and the first Leader of the Opposition in Yukon. MacKay, a chartered accountant, led the Liberal Party into the 1978 election, the territory's first-ever partisan legislative election, and was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon as MLA for Whitehorse Riverdale South. Even though his party lost the election overall, he was ironically the only one of the three party leaders to win his own seat, as both Hilda Watson of the Yukon Progressive Conservative Party and Fred Berger of the Yukon New Democratic Party were defeated in their own districts. Klondike (electoral District)
Klondike is an electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Legislative Assembly of Yukon in Canada. One of Yukon's eight rural ridings, it is also the oldest riding in Yukon, first established in 1905. The riding includes Dawson City and its environs, as well as Eagle Plains. Doug Graham is a Canadian politician, who was elected to in the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the 2011 election. He represented the electoral district of Porter Creek North as a member of the Yukon Party caucus until his defeat in the 2016 election. He previously represented the district of Whitehorse Porter Creek West from 1978 to 1982. Before becoming a territorial legislator a second time, Graham was elected in 2009 as a city councillor in Whitehorse, carrying the highest number of votes amongst all candidates.
