1982 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship
The 1982 NCAA Division I lacrosse tournament was the 12th annual tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the team champion of men's college lacrosse among its Division I programs at the end of the 1982 NCAA Division I men's lacrosse season. Twelve NCAA Division I college men's lacrosse teams met after having played their way through a regular season, and for some, a conference tournament. Defending champions North Carolina defeated Johns Hopkins in the championship game, 7–5, to claim their second NCAA national title. The championship game was played at Scott Stadium at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia on May 29, with 10,283 fans in attendance. NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Tournament
The NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament determines the annual top men's college lacrosse team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA NCAA Division I, Division I. This tournament has determined the national champion since the inaugural 1971 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship. From 1936 through 1970, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) awarded the Wingate Memorial Trophy annually to the collegiate champion based on regular season records. The 1982 NCAA Division III Lacrosse Championship was the third annual tournament to determine the national champions of NCAA Division III men's college lacrosse in the United States. The tournament field included eight teams, with the final played at Boswell Field at the Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. 1982 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament
The 1982 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship was the first annual single-elimination tournament to determine the national championship of NCAA women's college lacrosse. Unlike later editions, this title was determined by a single game. The championship game was played at Lions Stadium in Trenton, New Jersey during May 1982. The Massachusetts Minutewomen won their first championship by defeating the host Trenton State Lions in the final, 9–6. The leading scorer in the match was Repy Hattersly, from Trenton State, with 4 goals. There was no ''All-Tournament Team'' or ''Most Outstanding Player'' named this year. Qualification Until 1985, there was only one NCAA championship; a Division III title was added in 1985 and a Division II title in 2001. Jeff Cook (lacrosse)
Jeffrey "Jeff" Cook was an All-American lacrosse player at Johns Hopkins University from 1979 to 1982. Lacrosse career Cook who prepped at St. Paul's School (Brooklandville, Maryland) and McDonogh School, led Johns Hopkins to a 51 and 5 record during his time there. With the Blue Jays, Cook won national titles in 1979 and 1980. He is ranked sixth all-time in Hopkin's career scoring with 219 points. Cook earned first-team All America honors two years and second-team honors while in college, as well as being named the National Collegiate Player of the Year and the National Collegiate Attackman of the Year winner in 1981. Cook also led Hopkins to championship finals in 1981 and 1982, getting upset by UNC 14-13, Hopkins' first title game loss in the preceding four years, and losing also to North Carolina 7-5 in 1982. Adelphi Panthers Men's Lacrosse
The Adelphi Panthers are the athletic teams that represent Adelphi University, located in Garden City, Long Island, New York, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The university fields 23 varsity sports programs, and the Panthers compete as members of the Northeast-10 Conference in 22 of their 23 sports.
