The 1982 NCAA Division I-A football season was the last for Paul "Bear" Bryant as head coach at Alabama, retiring with in The Penn State Nittany Lions won their first consensus national championship, closing out an season by defeating Georgia and Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker 27–23 in the Sugar Bowl to edge out undefeated SMU for the national championship. It was Joe Paterno's first national championship, after three undefeated non-championship UCLA moved from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to the Rose Bowl and fulfilled a promise made by coach Terry Donahue by closing out their season there as well, beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. Bear Bryant
Paul William "Bear" Bryant (September 11, 1913 – January 26, 1983) was an American college football player and coach. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest college football coaches of all time, and best known as the head coach of the University of Alabama football team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, from 1958 to 1982. During his 25-year tenure as Alabama's head coach, he amassed six national championships and 13 conference championships. Upon his retirement in 1982, he held the record for the most wins (323) as a head coach in collegiate football history. The Paul W. Bryant Museum, Paul W. Bryant Hall, Paul W. Stickum is a trademark adhesive of Mueller Sports Medicine, of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin, United States. It is available in powder, paste, and aerosol spray forms. According to the company website, the spray form helps improve grip "even in wet conditions". Suggested uses include for bat handles and vaulting poles, with many vendors also promoting the product for use by weightlifters, and for various other athletic applications. Stickum, along with other adhesive or "sticky" substances (such as glue, rosin/tree sap, or food substances), were used for years in the National Football League to assist players in gripping the ball. The 1982 Washington Huskies football team was an American football team that represented the University of Washington during the 1982 NCAA Division I-A football season. In its eighth season under head coach Don James, the team compiled a 10–2 record, finished second in the Pacific-10 Conference, defeated Maryland in the Aloha Bowl, and outscored its opponents 354 to 193. Washington lost the Apple Cup for the first time in nine years, a four-point loss in Pullman which knocked the Huskies out of the Rose Bowl.
