1981–82 NASL Indoor Season
The 1981–82 season was the North American Soccer League's third indoor soccer season. Overview Thirteen of a possible 14 NASL teams participated. Fort Lauderdale was the only non-participant in the 18-game regular season. The Los Angeles Aztecs and the Minnesota Kicks had been scheduled to participate but were unable to do so, due to mounting financial issues. By early December both teams had folded. Other changes in the indoor structure included the separating of the teams into two conferences, each with two divisions. The Atlantic Conference contained the East and Central Divisions, while the Pacific Conference held the West and Northwest Divisions. During the regular season teams played eighteen matches within their conference only. Four teams from each conference advanced to the playoffs, which included the two division winners, along with the two non-division winners with the best won-loss record. Mike Connell (born 1 November 1956 in Mayfair, Johannesburg, South Africa) is a former professional footballer who spent most of his career as a defender. He played professionally in his native South Africa as well as in the North American Soccer League (NASL), mostly with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Connell earned the nickname "Iron Mike" by starting in an NASL record 179 consecutive regular season matches and appeared in 252 games overall, which was third in league history. Martin Donnelly (footballer Born 1951)
Martin Donnelly (born 4 January 1951) is a Northern Irish former football defender who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. Career Donnelly played in the North American Soccer League for the San Diego Sockers between 1979 and 1983, making 116 outdoor appearances. During his time with the Sockers, he also played three indoor seasons, two in the NASL and one, the 1982-1983 season, in the Major Indoor Soccer League. The Sockers won the MISL title that season. Barry Wallace (footballer)
Barry Daniel Wallace (17 April 1959 – 17 October 2006) was an English football midfielder who played professionally in the Football League, North American Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. After his retirement from playing, Wallace spent the rest of his life coaching youth soccer teams. Playing career In 1975, Wallace signed with Queens Park Rangers at the age of sixteen. He spent two seasons in the QPR youth system before graduating to the first team in 1977. He played twenty-five first team games over three seasons. Jürgen Stars (born 24 June 1948) is a German former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga and the North American Soccer League.
