1981–82 FC Basel Season
The Fussball Club Basel 1893 1981–82 season was their 88th season since the club was founded. It was their 36th consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after they won promotion during the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the St. Jakob Stadium. Pierre Jacques Lieblich was club chairman for the second year running. Overview Pre-season Helmut Benthaus was first-team manager for the seventeenth consecutive season. During the off-season four players left the squad, Ernst Schleiffer moved on to Grenchen, Peter Marti to Aarau, Markus Tanner to Luzern and Joseph Küttel moved on to Lugano. During the season Hansruedi Schär was loaned out to Nordstern Basel and during the winter break Detlev Lauscher moved on to Luzern. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Formed in 1893, the club has been Swiss national champions 20 times, Swiss Cup winners 13 times, and Swiss League Cup winners once. Basel have competed in European competitions every season since 1999–2000. They have qualified for the Group stages of the Champions League more times than any other Swiss club – a total of seven times – and are the only Swiss club to have ever qualified to the Group stages directly. Markus Tanner (born 15 January 1954) is a Switzerland, Swiss former football (soccer), footballer who played as a Forward (football), striker. He began his career with FC Basel during the 1970s, and later signed for FC Lucerne in 1981, where he played until 1985. He was also a Switzerland national football team, Swiss internationalist with ten caps and one goal. He made his international debut against the Netherlands national football team, Netherlands on 11 October 1978 in Bern, and played his last match against the same opposition on 1 September 1981 in Zürich. Beat Sutter
Beat Sutter (born 12 December 1962 in Gelterkinden) is a Swiss former football striker who played throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Sutter began his career with FC Basel in 1981 and went on to play 114 matches for the club before he left to join Neuchâtel Xamax in 1986. He spent the best years of his career at Xamax, playing over 200 games there. In 1994, he signed for Yverdon-Sport FC, but he spent just one season there and moved on to FC St. Gallen in 1995. He scored twice in 29 appearances for St. Gallen and retired in 1996, aged 33. Alfred Lüthi (footballer)
Alfred Lüthi (born 22 May 1958) is a Switzerland, Swiss former football (soccer), footballer who played in the 1980s and early 1990s as Midfielder (football), midfielder. Football career Lüthi first played with local club FC Subingen in the fourth tier of the Swiss football league system. He joined FC Basel, Basel's first team for their 1981–82 FC Basel season, 1981–82 season under head coach Helmut Benthaus. Lüthi's first game was in the Cup of the Alps, played in Stade Armand-Cesari away against French team SC Bastia, Bastia and Basel won 4–0. After then playing in four test games, Lüthi played his domestic league debut for his new club in the home game in the St. Jakob Stadium on 29 August 1981. Lüthi was substituted in the 70th minute and he then scored his first goal for his club as Basel won 1–0 against FC Bulle. FC Chiasso is a Swiss football club based in Chiasso. It was founded in 1905. Chiasso also played in the Italian first league between 1914 and 1923. Bruno Graf
Bruno Graf (30 August 1953 – 15 May 2020) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played as a defender. Football career Graf played most of his youth football by FC St. Gallen, with a short visit to FC Gossau, and advanced to the St. Gallen first team, who played in the Nationalliga A as an 18-year-old. During his first two seasons he played only three games and was therefore loaned to Brühl St. Gallen in the second tier of Swiss football to obtain more playing experience. Following his return to his club of origin, things did not work out as Graf wished and therefore a few years later, in 1977, he moved on to Young Fellows Zürich. But he could not help the Young Fellows from suffering relegation to the Nationalliga B that season. Thus, for the following season, Graf signed for Chiasso. BSC Young Boys (YB by short abbreviation ) are a Swiss sports club based in Bern, Switzerland. Its first team has won 15 Swiss league championships and six Swiss Cups. YB is one of the most successful Swiss football clubs internationally, reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup in the 1958–59 season. The club's colours are yellow of a golden shade and black. Walter Eichenberger
Walter Rudolf Eichenberger (born 28 November 1946) is a retired Swiss international footballer who played in the late 1960s, the 1970s and 1980s. He played as goalkeeper. Eichenberger played his youth football for Young Boys and advanced to their first team in the 1968–69 Nationalliga A season. He played his entire career, with one small exception, for the club. He won the Swiss Cup in the 1976–77 with the Young Boys. Young Boys won the Swiss championship in the 1985–86 Nationalliga A season, Eichenberger played in only one match that season and then he ended his active football career. In total between the years 1968 and 1986 Eichenberger played 331 league games for the Young Boys. The exception was as Eichenberger was on loan to FC Basel during the first half of their 1981–82 season, as replacement for their injured goalkeeper Hans Küng. Detlev Lauscher (30 September 1952 – 15 January 2010) was a German footballer who played as a striker during the 1970s and 1980s. He was born in Übach-Palenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. Lauscher played five seasons for 1. Hansruedi Schär (born 3 August 1957) is a Swiss retired footballer who played as midfielder in the 1970s and 1980s. Born in Olten Schär played his youth football on the local club in Oensingen. Schär joined Basel's first team for their 1977–78 season under head-coach Helmut Benthaus. After playing in one test match Schär played his domestic league debut for his new club in the away game on 11 December 1977 as Basel won 5–4 against Young Boys. He scored his first goal for the club on 4 March 1978 in the home game at the St. Jakob Stadium as Basel played against Sion. Schär scored the first goal of the match, Peter Ramseier added another and Roland Schönenberger scored a hat-trick as Basel won 5–0. The season 1979–80 Nationalliga A was an exciting season.
