1981 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Singles
Chris Evert Lloyd defeated Hana Mandlíková in the final, 6–2, 6–2 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships. It was her third Wimbledon singles title and her twelfth major singles title, surpassing Margaret Court's Open Era record. Chris Evert
Christine Marie Evert (born December 21, 1954), known as Chris Evert Lloyd from 1979 to 1987, is an American former world No. 1 tennis player. Evert won 18 major singles titles, including a record seven French Open titles and a joint-record six US Open titles (tied with Serena Williams). She was ranked world No. 1 for 260 weeks, and was the year-end world No. 1 singles player seven times (1974–78, 1980, 1981). Alongside Martina Navratilova, her greatest rival, Evert dominated women's tennis in the 1970s and 1980s. Evert reached 34 major singles finals, the most in history. Bettina Bunge
Bettina Bunge (born 13 June 1963) is a retired German tennis player. Born in Adliswil, Switzerland, she was part of a large group of successful German players in the 1980s, which also included Steffi Graf, Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, Sylvia Hanika, and Eva Pfaff. Career With German nationality as the daughter of a German businessman, she was born in Switzerland, and resided in Peru for more than 13 years. Claudia Roshardt-Pasquale (born 22 May 1963) is a retired professional tennis player from Switzerland. Biography Tennis career Pasquale played in three Federation Cup ties for Switzerland. She debuted in Switzerland's quarterfinal loss to the USSR in the 1979 Federation Cup and lost her singles match to Natasha Chmyreva in three sets. In the 1980 competition, she featured in a 3–0 whitewash over Greece in the first round, then sat out of the action as Switzerland made it to the semifinals. Lele Forood (born 10 September 1956) is the Peter and Helen Bing director of women's tennis at Stanford University. She has been the head coach since 2001, and has won 10 NCAA Championships. Previously, she was a top amateur and college tennis player. As a professional, she is best known for reaching the doubles semifinals at the 1977 US Open and at the 1978 US Open, upsetting reigning Wimbledon champion Virginia Wade. Yvonne Vermaak
Yvonne Vermaak (born 18 December 1956) is a former tour tennis player who represented her native South Africa. Vermaak's best result was reaching the semi-finals of the 1983 Wimbledon Championships, defeating Virginia Wade in the quarter-finals. In 1977 she won the All England Plate, a competition for players who were defeated in the first three rounds of the Wimbledon singles competition. Petra Jauch-Delhees (born 28 March 1959), born Petra Delhees, is a former professional tennis player from Switzerland. Biography Delhees, a left-hander, began playing Federation Cup tennis for Switzerland as a 17-year old in 1976. Chris O'Neil (tennis)
Christine O'Neil (born 19 March 1956) is an Australian former professional tennis player. O'Neil is best known for her singles victory at the 1978 Australian Open, and was the last Australian to win the title until Ashleigh Barty in 2022.
