Following its commencement in 1977, the Divisional Championship had had a two-season break owing to the demands of fixtures against touring teams, but returned in 1980–81. The season's final was held on 20 December 1980 in poor weather conditions at Twickenham, and the North retained the title they won in 1977 with a 6–0 win over the Midlands. Divisional Championship (rugby Union)
The Divisional Championship was an annual rugby union competition in England that ran over two separate periods between the late 1970s to the mid 1990s, contested by representative teams from four geographical regions of England. Originally launched at a time when there was no formalised league structure for club matches in England, the competition was devised to allow players to gain experience of representative rugby, and concentrate the country's strongest players into a single competitive tournament below international level, thereby providing a better basis for selecting a successful England team.Jenkins, Vivian (Editor). Fylde Rugby Union Club is a rugby union club based in Lytham St Annes, on the Fylde coast in Lancashire, England. The home venue is the Woodlands Memorial Ground on Blackpool Road in Ansdell and the first team play in English rugby's National League 2 North, the fourth tier of the English rugby union system, following their relegation from National League 1 at the end of the 2017–18 season. There are another three senior teams, the Hawks, the Saracens and the Vandals who play in the English North West Leagues; respectively in the NW Premiership, NW1 North and NW4 North. There is also a Colts team. In previous seasons the Colts have played in the Lancashire & Cheshire regional leagues. Moseley is a suburb of south Birmingham, England, south of the city centre. The area is a popular cosmopolitan residential location and leisure destination, with a number of bars and restaurants. The Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club, sometimes abbreviated "CURUFC", is the rugby union club of the University of Cambridge. The team plays Oxford University RFC in the annual Varsity Match at Twickenham Stadium every December. Cambridge players wear light blue and white hooped jerseys with a red lion crest. Toby Allchurch
Toby James Allchurch (born 1958 in Karachi) is an English former rugby union footballer. Allchurch represented England on the 1979 England rugby union tour of Japan, Fiji and Tonga. Allchurch matriculated at Hatfield College, Durham in 1977 to read for a degree in General Arts, but was promoted to the Honours Course in Politics and Sociology. He graduated with a gentleman's degree in 1980. According to Alastair Hignell, in the aftermath of the first match against Japan, Allchurch was involved in a bar brawl after being struck on the head by an ashtray thrown by a drunken Japanese fan. He was named to the bench for the second match against Japan and made his England debut as a flanker against Tonga in the final match of the tour, scoring one try. Graham Leslie Robbins (born 24 September 1956) is a former English rugby union player. Robbins played for Coventry as a number eight and won two international caps for the England national rugby union team The England national rugby union team represents England in men's international rugby union. Les Cusworth (born 31 July 1954) is a former English rugby union footballer and current Argentine Director of Rugby. Education He was educated at Normanton Grammar School and the West Midlands College of Education, a teacher training college (now part of the University of Wolverhampton). Playing career He started his club career at Wakefield RFC where he set the British club record of 25 drop goals in just 21 games in the 1974–75 season and helped Wakefield reach the semi finals of the John Player Cup in 1975–76. He later moved to Moseley and Leicester Tigers from where he won 12 England caps over nine years (1979–1988), although he was never really favoured by the English management as he was an unpredictable running fly half. Sir Clive Ronald Woodward (born 6 January 1956) is an English former rugby union player and coach. He was coach of the team from 1997 to 2004, managing them to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He also coached the 2005 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, losing the test series 3-0. He is currently a pundit for ITV Sport, working on their coverage of the Six Nations and Rugby World Cup. Early life Woodward was born in Ely, Cambridgeshire, the son of an RAF pilot. Leicester Tigers (officially Leicester Football Club) are a professional rugby union club based in Leicester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby.
