1980 Gillette Cup
The 1980 Gillette Cup was an English limited overs county cricket tournament held between 2 July and 6 September 1980. It was the eighteenth and final Gillette Cup before it was renamed as the NatWest Trophy in 1981. Middlesex won the tournament, defeating Surrey by 7 wickets in the final at Lord's. Format The seventeen first-class counties were joined by five Minor Counties: Cornwall, Devon, Durham, Oxfordshire and Suffolk. Test And County Cricket Board
The Test and County Cricket Board (TCCB) was the governing body for Test and county cricket in Great Britain between 1968 and 1996. The TCCB was established in 1968 to replace the functions of the Board of Control for Test Matches (established in 1898) and the Advisory County Cricket Committee (1904) which had been set up by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) to administer Test cricket in England and the County Championship respectively. In order to be eligible for government funding through the Sports Council, cricket needed an independent governing body and the representatives from the TCCB, together with representatives from MCC and the National Cricket Association (NCA), formed a new Cricket Council, initially known as the MCC Council. Oxfordshire County Cricket Club
Oxfordshire County Cricket Club is one of twenty minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Oxfordshire. The team is currently a member of the Minor Counties Championship Western Division and plays in the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Oxfordshire played List A matches occasionally from 1967 until 2004 but is not classified as a List A team ''per se''. Graham Barlow
Graham Derek Barlow (born 26 March 1950) is a former cricketer and was a middle-order batsman for Middlesex and, briefly, for England. Early life Educated at the former Ealing Grammar School for Boys (now Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College), Barlow was both a talented cricketer and rugby player in his youth. He has been capped for the England under-23 Rugby Union team. Vintcent Van Der Bijl
Vintcent Adriaan Pieter van der Bijl (born 19 March 1948) is a retired South African cricketer. He was born in Rondebosch, Cape Town, where his father, Pieter van der Bijl, was headmaster of the Diocesan College Preparatory School after retiring from playing first-class cricket for Western Province and South Africa. His grandfather, V.A.W. van der Bijl (also Vintcent), and great-uncle, Voltelin van der Bijl, also played first-class cricket for Western Province. He was educated at the Diocesan College Rondebosch, where he not only excelled at cricket, but, owing to his size and strength, was a useful rugby union player and outstanding shot putter and at the University of Natal. While at university he came under the influence of Trevor Goddard. Ivan John Anderson (born 13 August 1944) is a former Irish cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm off-break bowler. He made his debut for the Ireland cricket team against Middlesex in July 1966, and went on to play for his country 86 times in all. Of these matches, 19 had first-class status and three had List A status. He had a highest first-class score of 147, and his best bowling in first-class cricket was 5/21. Roy Palmer (cricketer)
Roy Palmer (born 12 July 1942) is a former cricketer who had a relatively short first-class career as a player with Somerset from 1965 to 1970 and a much longer career as a first-class umpire, He stood in two Test matches in 1992 and 1993 and in eight One Day International games between 1983 and 1995. Cricket player Palmer is the younger brother of the Somerset and England all-rounder Ken Palmer and, like him, a right-handed batsman and a fast-medium right-arm bowler. Unlike Ken, Roy Palmer's batting was normally no better than lower-order, and though he made 84 batting at No 9 against Leicestershire in 1967, he never again passed 50. Kenneth Ernest Palmer (born 22 April 1937) is an English former cricketer and umpire (cricket), umpire, who played in one Test cricket, Test match in 1965, and umpired 22 Tests and 23 One Day Internationals from 1977 to 2001. The County Ground is a cricket ground in Exeter, Devon. The earliest recorded match on the ground was in 1889 between the Gentlemen of Devon and Somerset. In 1902, Devon played their first Minor Counties Championship match on the ground, which was against Wiltshire. From 1902 to 1987, the ground played host to 148 Minor Counties Championship matches and a single MCCA Knockout Trophy match between Devon and Oxfordshire in 1984. The ground hosted its first Minor Counties match in 23 years in May 2010, when Devon played Wales Minor Counties. Martyn Goulding (born 31 July 1954) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Devon. He was born in Westminster. Goulding represented Devon for the first time in the Minor Counties Championship in 1974. Eric George Willcock (born 28 September 1947) is a former English cricketer. Willcock was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at St. Ives, Cornwall. Willcock made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Cornwall in 1967 against Devon.
