A wild card (also wildcard or wild-card and also known as an at-large berth or at-large bid) is a tournament or playoff berth awarded to an individual or team that fails to qualify in the normal way; for example, by having a high ranking or winning a qualifying stage. In some events, wildcards are chosen freely by the organizers. Other events have fixed rules. Some North American professional sports leagues compare the records of teams which did not qualify directly by winning a division or conference. Nina Bland (born April 21, 1959) is a Canadian former professional tennis player. A Canadian Federation Cup representative, Bland played singles in five ties between 1979 and 1981. Her only win, against Frédérique Thibault Frédérique Thibault (born 2 June 1954) is a former professional tennis player from France. Between 1977 and 1982, Thibault featured in 16 Federation Cup ties for France, winning nine matches. Thibault competed in all four grand slam tournament ... in 1980, helped Canada defeat France in the final of the consolation rounds. While a student at UC Berkeley she played varsity tennis.
