1980 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 1980 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held in Sindelfingen, a city in West Germany, on 1 and 2 March 1980. The championships were boycotted by East Germany. The middle-distance races were hand-timed. The host nation topped the medal table with 12 medals, including 5 golds, followed closely by Poland and the Soviet Union. Massimo Di Giorgio (born 22 March 1958) is a former Italian high jumper, who won three medals at senior level at the International athletics competitions. Biography He finished fifteenth at the 1978 European Indoor Championships, won the gold medal at the 1979 Mediterranean Games and won a bronze medal at the 1983 European Indoor Championships. His personal best jump is 2.30 metres, achieved in June 1981 in Udine. 1980 Moscow Olympics boycott Italian athletes serving in its military corps could not attend the Games, however, because of the national government's official support of the boycott. Martí Perarnau Grau (born 1955) is a Catalan sports journalist and former athlete. Biography He was born in Barcelona and in his youth he practiced athletics at the wish of his father, who was a university champion in the 400 meter hurdles. At one time, he held the Spanish national record in his discipline. When he was 19, he combined his career with his first job as a journalist at the Diario de Barcelona, and in 1976 he retired from competition to assume the sports leadership of the Mundio Diario for four years. He returned to elite spots after the disappearance of that newspaper, in time to win a place in the 1980 Summer Olympics. Already in the Soviet capital he fell into the elimination phase. Best known for his box-office successes, such as ''Šejtanov ratnik'' (2006), '' Skinning'' (2010) and '' Next to Me'' (2015), he is recognized for depicting social commentary through elements of fantasy.
