1979 Davis Cup Eastern Zone
The Eastern Zone was one of the three regional zones of the 1979 Davis Cup. 10 teams entered the Eastern Zone, with 6 teams competing in the preliminary round to join the previous year's semifinalists in the main draw. Japan and India received byes into the quarterfinals, while Australia and New Zealand received byes into the semifinals. The winner of the main draw went on to compete in the Inter-Zonal Zone against the winners of the Americas Zone and Europe Zone. Australia defeated New Zealand in the final and progressed to the Inter-Zonal Zone. 1979 Davis Cup
The 1979 Davis Cup was the 68th edition of the Davis Cup, the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 52 teams would enter the competition, 29 in the Europe Zone, 13 in the Americas Zone, and 10 in the Eastern Zone. Following years of protests from various national sides, South Africa were expelled from the Davis Cup for failing to abandon its apartheid policies. For many years the Davis Cup organisers had been reluctant to let political issues affect the competition, however following several years of defaults by national teams and threats of a boycott, the organisers of the tournament were forced to resolve the political disagreements by expelling the South African side. Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and the Caribbean/West Indies teams had all pulled out of the 1978 tournament, and in 1977 the United States, Great Britain and France had all withdrawn in protest to the continued politicisation of the Cup before eventually re-entering following concessions. ... Jun Kuki
is a former professional tennis player from Japan. Biography Kuki, a right-hander, played collegiate tennis in the United States for UCLA. He had an unbeaten season in 1969, with a 13–0 record. He was first picked for the Japan Davis Cup team in the 1971 tournament. His best performance in a Grand Slam tournament came at the 1971 French Open when he had wins over Phil Dent and Petre Mărmureanu, before losing a five-set third round match to Bob Lutz. In April 1976 he had the most prolific period of his career when he finished runner-up in a further two Grand Prix tournaments, both in Spain. He lost to Paolo Bertolucci in the final at Barcelona, then to Buster Mottram in Palma, Majorca. A regular Davis Cup competitor for Japan in the 1970s, Kuki played the last of his nine ties for the Japanese team in 1978. He played a total of 17 singles matches, of which he won 11. Kasuga, Fukuoka
is a city located in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of August 31, 2016, the city has an estimated population of 112,894 and a population density of 7,978.37 persons per km². The total area is 14.15 km². The city was founded on April 1, 1972. It is directly south of Fukuoka City, and west of Onojo. It also has a border with Nakagawa. Kasuga station is on the JR Kagoshima Main Line, while Kasugabaru Station is on the Nishitetsu Tenjin Ōmuta Line. The Hakata-Minami Line also terminates here. Hadiman
Hadiman Hadiman (born 29 November 1950) is an Indonesian former professional tennis player. Debuting in 1974, Hadiman competed for the Indonesia Davis Cup team in seven campaigns and was a member of the side which won the 1982 Eastern Zone, beating Japan in the final. His last appearance, a 1983 tie against Sweden, was Indonesia's first ever World Group fixture. He retired with a 3–4 overall win–loss record.
