Yuen Long Football Club (), previously known as Best Union Yuen Long () for sponsorship reasons, is a Hong Kong professional football club based in Yuen Long which currently competes in the Hong Kong First Division. The football teams of the club were originally organised by Yuen Long District Sports Association (). In 2013, Yuen Long Football Club was established as a private entity, separate from the district sports association. History Yuen Long District Sport Association was established by former chairmen of Hong Kong Football Association, Fu Lee Sha and Tsang Sam Chiu in 1959. The team entered the former Hong Kong Third Division in 1959–60 season. The team carried a three-year plan to get promotion to Hong Kong First Division. In 1961–62, the team became the first district team to compete in First Division. In 1962–63, the team gained their first top Division League title. Hong Kong Viceroy Cup () was a association football, football competition in Hong Kong held by British American Tobacco. Started in 1969, it was the first football competition in Hong Kong which allowed commercial Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship. Together with Hong Kong First Division League, First Division League, Hong Kong FA Cup, FA Cup and Hong Kong Senior Shield, Senior Shield, they were considered as "Big Four" competitions in Hong Kong football circle. Since July 1999, the Hong Kong government has forbidden the sponsorship of sports events by tobacco firms, although the Chinese name of it suggests "Hong Kong Governor, Governor", which was the leader of British Hong Kong colony before Hong Kong Handover in 1997. The Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield (), known commonly as the Senior Shield, is the football knockout inter-club competition held in Hong Kong and the fourth oldest football tournament in Asia. Traditionally, only the teams in the Hong Kong Premier League are entered into the competition. However, on occasion teams in lower divisions, usually the champions of the Junior Shield, are invited in order to increase the number of participating teams. The Hong Kong First Division League () is the second-highest division in the Hong Kong football league system. Established in 1908, it is the third oldest in Asia. The league was formerly the highest division in Hong Kong until the formation of the Hong Kong Premier League in 2014. Since 1908, a total of 29 clubs have been crowned champions of the Hong Kong football system. South China are the most successful club, having won 41 times since their first participation in 1941.
