Television in Belgium was introduced in 1953 and began with one channel each in Dutch and French. The country is heavily cabled, with 93% of households watching television through cable as of 2003. History The three Belgian Communities – Dutch, French and German-speaking – have legal responsibility for audiovisual communication. They constitute separate markets, the common feature of which is the fact that they have been extensively cabled for three decades and are thus able to receive neighbouring countries' channels. Until 1978, Radio-Television Belgium ( nl, Belgische Radio- en Televisieomroep; french: Radio-Télévision Belge) was Belgium's national public television broadcaster. When broadcasting was devolved to the language communities in 1977, the old organization split into three separate organisations now known as VRT, RTBF and BRF respectively. Jean Vallée
Jean Vallée (born Paul Goeders in Verviers on 2 October 1941 – 12 March 2014, Clermont-sur-Berwinne) was a Belgian songwriter and performer. Vallée was appointed Knight of the Order of the Crown by HM Albert II in 1999. Career In 1967 Vallée represented Belgium in the Festival of Rio, where Jacques Brel was a member of the jury. He represented Belgium for the Eurovision Song Contest 1970 with "Viens l'oublier" finishing eighth. He participated a second time in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 with "L'amour ça fait chanter la vie Belgium was represented by Jean Vallée, with the song "L'amour ça fait chanter la vie", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 22 April in Paris. Eurovision Song Contest 1978
The Eurovision Song Contest 1978 was the 23rd edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Paris, France, following the country's victory at the with the song " L'Oiseau et l'Enfant" by Marie Myriam. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Télévision Française 1 (TF1), the contest was held at the Palais des Congrès on 22 April 1978 and was hosted by French television presenters Denise Fabre and Léon Zitrone. This was the first time that more than one presenter had hosted the contest as well as the first to have a male presenter since . In addition to hosting, the two presenters also served as commentators for France. Twenty countries participated, the highest number of competing countries in the history of the competition at the time. and both returned to the contest. L'amour ça Fait Chanter La Vie
Belgium was represented by Jean Vallée, with the song "L'amour ça fait chanter la vie", at the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 22 April in Paris. Before Eurovision Eurosong French-language broadcaster RTBF was in charge of the selection of the Belgian entry for the 1978 Contest. Information on the venue of, and host for, the final is not currently available. Eight songs participated in the selection and the winner was chosen by an expert jury, although again it is not known whether full results were given or only the winner announced. Unusually, all but one of the participants were male. Vallée was the winner of the national final for the contest. he had previously represented Belgium in the 1970 contest in Amsterdam, where he had finished fifth. Evi Greta Roberta Hanssen (born 9 November 1978) is a Flanders, Flemish singer and presenter. Biography Hanssen grew up with three older brothers in Antwerp. She started as a background singer in the ''Samson en Gert (TV series), Samson en Gert'' Christmas shows and played on her 16th in ''Samson en Gert (TV series), Samson en Gert'' Sofie, the niece of the mayor.
