Players who neither had high enough rankings nor received wild cards to enter the main draw of the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships participated in a qualifying tournament held one week before the event. Several players withdrew from the main draw after qualifying had commenced, leading to the highest ranked players who lost in the final qualifying round to be entered into the main draw as lucky losers. Armistead Neely (born March 19, 1947) is an American former professional tennis player. He is a member of the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame. Biography Neely grew up in Tampa, Florida, where he moved to as a child from Mobile, Alabama. He played collegiate tennis for the University of Florida, earning All-American honors in 1968 and 1969. During his time at the University of Florida he remained unbeaten in SEC singles dual matches. Dale Collings (born 16 December 1955) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Career Collings, who was known for his fast serves, won the Wimbledon Plate in 1978. He twice made the third round of the Australian Open, in 1978 and 1982. Tenny Svensson (born 21 September 1952) is a former professional tennis player from Sweden. ''Biography'' Svensson played a 77-game opening round match against American John Andrews at the 1975 Wimbledon Championships, which he won 18–16 in the fifth set. Charles Manuel Pasarell Jr. (born February 12, 1944) is a Puerto Rican former tennis player, tennis administrator and founder of the current Indian Wells tournament.
