Sara Simeoni (born 19 April 1953) is an Italian former high jumper, who won a gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics and twice set a world record in the women's high jump. Biography Sara Simeoni was born in Rivoli Veronese, in the province of Verona. She soon took up athletics, specialising in the high jump. Her first international result was at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki, where she ended 9th with a 178 cm jump. Her first international success was at the 1976 in Montreal, where she won a silver medal, with a personal best of 1.91 m, and was beaten only by Rosemarie Ackermann's 1.93 m leap. In August 1978, she set the new world record with 2.01 m in Brescia (this jump stood as a national record until Antonietta Di Martino jumped 2.02 in June 2007). Brigitte Elisabeth Holzapfel (born 10 April 1958 in Krefeld) is a retired West German high jumper. At the 1975 European Junior Championships she won a bronze medal in the high jump and a gold medal in pentathlon. She finished eleventh at the 1976 Olympic Games, won silver medals at the 1977 and 1978 European Indoor Championships, and the bronze medal at the 1978 European Championships, finished sixth at the 1984 European Indoor Championships and eleventh at the 1984 Olympic Games. Andrea Mátay (born 27 September 1955 in Budapest) is a retired Hungarian high jumper. Her outdoor personal best jump was 1.94 metres, achieved in September 1979 in Mexico City. Rosemarie "Rosi" Ackermann (; born 4 April 1952) is a German former high jumper. On 26 August 1977 in Berlin, she became the first female high jumper to clear a height of 2 metres. Biography She was born in Lohsa, Saxony. As Rosemarie Witschas, she represented East Germany in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, finishing seventh behind Ulrike Meyfarth. In 1974, at the European Championships in Rome, she won her first international title, setting a new world record of 1.95m.
