1976–77 Philadelphia 76ers Season
The 1976–77 NBA season was the 28th season for the Philadelphia 76ers franchise in the NBA. Just months earlier, the American Basketball Association had ended its ninth and final campaign and the two leagues combined. In a special $6 million deal, the Nets sold Julius Erving, the ABA's leading scorer, to the Philadelphia 76ers for $3 million. The other $3 million went to Erving, by way of a new contract. In Philadelphia, Erving joined another scoring machine, George McGinnis, who had come over earlier from the Indiana Pacers. This accumulation of talent brought talk of an immediate championship to Philadelphia. The talented 76ers had posted the best record in the Eastern Conference with a record of 50–32. Gene Shue
Eugene William Shue (December 18, 1931 – April 3, 2022) was an American professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Shue was one of the top guards of the early days of the NBA and an influential figure in the development of basketball. He is credited with having invented the "spin move" while being an early harbinger of other plays and strategies. Shue was an NBA All-Star five consecutive times (1958–62). After his successful playing career, he became a long-serving coach, twice winning NBA Coach of the Year. Throughout his career as player, coach, and executive, Shue was "a specialist at taking over faltering teams". Early life Shue was born in Baltimore on December 18, 1931. Darryl Dawkins
Darryl R. Dawkins (January 11, 1957 – August 27, 2015) was an American professional basketball player. He was particularly known for his tenure with the National Basketball Association's Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets, although he also played briefly for the Detroit Pistons and Utah Jazz late in his career. His nickname, "Chocolate Thunder", was bestowed upon him by Stevie Wonder. He was known for his powerful dunks, which led to the NBA adopting breakaway rims due to him shattering a backboard on two occasions in 1979. Dawkins averaged double figures in scoring nine times in his 14 years in the NBA, often ranking among the league leaders in field-goal percentage. Mike Dunleavy Sr
Michael Joseph Dunleavy Sr. (born March 21, 1954) is an American former professional basketball player, coach, and general manager of the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Clippers. He was most recently the head coach of the Tulane University men's basketball team. Dunleavy is the father of former professional basketball player Mike Dunleavy Jr. Early life Dunleavy was born in Brooklyn, New York. His primary education was at Holy Cross. Missouri Western State University is a public university in Saint Joseph, Missouri. As of 2019, it enrolled 5,413 students. Jeff Browne
Jeffrey Browne (born 1955) is the president of the Collingwood Football Club. He was elected to the position in late 2021. Browne previously worked as an external lawyer for the Australian Football League (AFL) for 22 years. He played for the Collingwood U19s in 1972. As well as being Collingwood president, Browne is chairman of MA Financial Group, Walkinshaw Automotive and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). He was the managing director of Channel Nine from 2010 until 2013. Collingwood Football Club president Browne is the fourth president in a 12 month period. Terry Furlow
Terry L. Furlow (October 18, 1954 – May 23, 1980) was an American basketball player. Amateur career Furlow was a 6-foot-4-inch (1.93 m) shooting guard from Flint, Michigan who played high school basketball at Flint Northern High School. With Northern and coach Bill Frieder, Furlow won back-to-back state Class A championships, including an undefeated team in his senior year (1971–72). The 1976–77 NBA season was the Rockets' 10th season in the NBA and 6th season in the city of Houston. In the playoffs, the Rockets defeated the Washington Bullets in six games in the Semifinals before losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in six games in the Conference Finals.
