1975 In Radio
The year 1975 saw a number of significant events in radio broadcasting history. Events *1 January: KQV-Pittsburgh's new owner, Taft Broadcasting, hires Joey Reynolds as program director. KQV's Top 40 format is blown up, taking a bizarre, free-form approach dubbed "The Death of Radio!" Phonetically re-branded "Kay-Cue-Vee," regular newscasts are canceled, jingles are replaced with crudely produced "mingles," airplay of ''any'' Top 10 songs was avoided, daily names like "Barrel Bottom Radio," "Volkswagen Radio," "Channel 14," "AM Radio" and "Normalcy Radio" are used, and all of the deejays ''only'' said "KQV plays WAY too Much Music!" for a seven-day period, among other stunting (broadcasting), stunts. Taft Broadcasting
The Taft Broadcasting Company (also known as Taft Television and Radio Company, Incorporated) was an American media conglomerate based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The company was rooted in the Taft family, family of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States. In 1879, William Howard's brother, Charles Phelps Taft, purchased two afternoon newspapers in Cincinnati, ''The Times'' and ''The Cincinnati Daily Star'', merging them into the ''The Cincinnati Times-Star, Cincinnati Times-Star'' in 1880. It was during the tenure of the merged paper's second publisher, Hulbert Taft, Hulbert Taft Sr., son of Charles and William Howard's half-brother, Peter Rawson Taft II, that the newspaper also became involved in broadcasting. Roy Hudd
Roy Hudd, OBE (16 May 1936 – 15 March 2020) was an English comedian, actor, presenter, radio host, author and authority on the history of music hall entertainment. Early life Hudd was born in Croydon on 16 May 1936 to Evalina "Evie" (née Barham) and Harry Hudd. His father was a carpenter who left the family shortly after the Second World War, and his mother, who had a history of mental health problems, commited suicide by gas when Hudd was 9 years old. Hudd was primarily brought up by his grandmother, and attended Tavistock Secondary Modern School in Croydon and Croydon Secondary Technical School. After completing his national service in the Royal Air Force, he studied commercial art at the Regent Street Polytechnic. He then worked as a messenger for an advertising agency, a window dresser and a commercial artist working under Harry Beck. Stockton-on-Tees
Stockton-on-Tees, often simply referred to as Stockton, is a market town in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It is on the northern banks of the River Tees, part of the Teesside built-up area. The town had an estimated population of 84,318 in 2011. It is included in the Tees Valley mayoralty. ''Monitor'' was an American weekend radio program broadcast live and nationwide on the NBC Radio Network from June 12, 1955, until January 26, 1975. It began originally on Saturday morning at 8am and continued through the weekend until 12 midnight on Sunday. After the first few months, the full weekend broadcast was shortened when the midnight-to-dawn hours were dropped since few NBC stations carried it. The program offered a magazine-of-the-air mix of news, sports, comedy, variety, music, celebrity interviews and other short segments (along with records, usually of popular middle-of-the-road songs, especially in its later years). Plymouth

Heart Plymouth (formerly Plymouth Sound) was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Plymouth in Devon, England. History The heritage name Plymouth Sound was a pun on the popular meaning of ''sound'' (in the audio sense) and the bay of Plymouth Sound between Penlee Point and Wembury Point in Devon. Beautiful music (sometimes abbreviated as BM, B/EZ or BM/EZ for "beautiful music/easy listening") is a mostly instrumental music format that was prominent in North American radio from the late 1950s through the 1980s. Easy listening, elevator music, light music, mood music, and Muzak are other terms that overlap with this format and the style of music that it featured.
