The 1975 Tour of the Basque Country was the 15th edition of the Tour of the Basque Country cycle race and was held from 14 April to 18 April 1975. The race started in Irun and finished in Hondarribia. The race was won by José Antonio González Linares of the Kas team. José Viejo
José Luis Viejo Gómez (2 November 1949 – 16 November 2014) was a Spanish road cyclist who was professional from 1973 to 1982. He represented his native country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, where he finished in 37th place in the men's individual road race. Viejo won the 11th stage of the 1976 Tour de France with a time difference of 22 minutes and 50 seconds to the second-placed cyclist; this is the largest lead in the Tour de France after the Second World War. He also won the Tour de Pologne 1972. Santiago Lazcano
Santiago Lazcano (8 March 1947 in Errezil – 3 February 1985 in San Sebastián) was a Spanish cyclist. He debuted as a professional in 1969 and rode both the Vuelta a España and Tour de France that year. He finished 10th overall in the 1972 Giro d'Italia and his best season was 1973 as he won the Spanish mountain championship, the Villafranca Grand Prix and took 5th overall in the 1973 Giro d'Italia. In 1974 he won stage 17, a high mountain stage in the Giro d'Italia and he finished 10th overall in the 1975 Vuelta a España. He retired as a pro cyclist in 1976 after an accident with a car at a race in The Netherlands. Following his retirement he occasionally commentated on the radio and on a regional TV show called 6 Hours of Euskadi. He died in a motorcycle accident close to his home in Azpeitia. Francisco Galdós Gauna (born May 6, 1947 in Lasarte, Álava) is a Spanish former professional road racing cyclist. He finished second in the 1975 Giro d'Italia and 1979 Vuelta a España, third in 1972 Giro d'Italia, sixth in the 1976 Tour de France, and fourth in the 1977 Tour de France. Pedro Torres Cruces (born 27 April 1949 in Humilladero) is a Spanish former road bicycle racer. He was a GC contender in Grand Tours. His first was the 1972 Vuelta. In the following year he placed 5th overall in the Vuelta and won the King of the Mountains competition, as well as a stage in the 1973 Tour de France. Late in the year at the World Championships he finished 6th. In 1975 he took a top 10 in the Volta a Catalunya and then in the Vuelta he came up just short of winning the King of the Mountains while finishing 14th overall. In the Tour he finished 10th while taking a 4th place at the World Championships. In 1976 he started with another top 10 in the Volta a Catalunya, finished 9th in the 1976 Vuelta a España and just inside the top 20 in the Tour. He began 1977 with another top 10 in the Volta a Catalunya and had a very strong performance in the 77 Vuelta winning stage 15, winning the King of the Mountains and finishing top 10 overall. Kas (cycling Team)
Kas was a Spanish-based professional cycling team which was active from 1958 until 1979 and again for three years in the 1980s. Its name was derived from the name of the principal sponsor of the team, the soft drinks manufacturer, Kas. The team was principally based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. Its riders typically wore a jersey that consisted of yellow and blue. History Kas–Kaskol team The Kas team began operating in 1958, and in that year one of its riders, Fausto Izan, won a stage in the Vuelta a España. In 1959 the team signed the 1958 Spanish champion, Federico Bahamontes, who at that time had won two King of the Mountains classifications in both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. Hondarribia ( eu, Hondarribia; es, Fuenterrabía; french: Fontarrabie) is a town situated on the west shore of Bidasoa river's mouth, in Gipuzkoa, in Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, Spain.
