1974–75 Nottingham Forest F.C. Season
The 1974–75 season was Nottingham Forest's 110th year in existence and third campaign consecutive in the Second Division since their relegation in 1972. Summary During summer the club reinforced the side transferred in several players, left back Paddy Greenwood from Boston Minutemen, Welsh defender Dave Jones from AFC Bournemouth and forward Barry Butlin from Luton Town F.C. From the youth squad arrived goalkeeper John Middleton and defender Viv Anderson for the right back position. After a bad streak of results, included an early elimination in League Cup on 6 January 1975 the board sacked Allan Brown and appointed former Derby County 1972 League Champion manager Brian Clough. John Middleton (footballer, Born 1956)
John Middleton (24 December 1956 – 3 July 2016) was an English under-21 internationalist football goalkeeper. He won honours playing 137 first team games with Nottingham Forest. After 80 competitive first team games for Derby County he retired due to injury aged 23 in 1980. Nottingham Forest Middleton started as an apprentice at Nottingham Forest in the 1974-75 season. Allan Brown gave him his debut aged 17 on 19 October 1974 in a Second Division 1–0 win at West Bromwich Albion. He remained first choice for the next three years playing 137 competitive and non-competitive first team games between 1974 and 1977. Brian Clough replaced Brown as manager in January 1975 and was joined in July 1976 by his former assistant manager at Derby County, Peter Taylor. Viv Anderson
Vivian Alexander Anderson, MBE (born 29 July 1956) is an English former professional footballer and coach. He won five senior trophies including the 1977–78 Football League title, and both the 1978–79 European Cup and the 1979–80 European Cup playing for Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest. He was later part of the squads to win a domestic cup with each of Arsenal and Manchester United. He also played for Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley and Middlesbrough. He was the first black and second non-white footballer after Paul Reaney to play for the senior men's England national football team. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. John O'Hare
John O'Hare (born 24 September 1946) is a Scottish former footballer. O'Hare's clubs included Sunderland, Derby County, Leeds United and also Nottingham Forest and was part of their European Cup victory in 1980, coming on as a substitute in the final. O'Hare also won thirteen caps for the Scotland national team, scoring five goals. Early years Born in Renton, West Dunbartonshire, he attended St Martins School and then went on to St Patrick's High School in Dumbarton. John McGovern (footballer)
John Prescott McGovern (born 28 October 1949) is a Scottish former association football midfielder and manager. McGovern is most famous for captaining the Nottingham Forest side that won the European Cup twice under the management of Brian Clough, whom he played under at four clubs, and Peter Taylor. At the age of 19 he became the youngest player to play in all four divisions of the Football League. During his playing career he won promotion with Hartlepools United / Hartlepool, Derby County and Nottingham Forest. He won titles as English League champions with both Derby and Forest. At Forest he also won the UEFA Super Cup, two Football League Cups, the FA Charity Shield and the Anglo-Scottish Cup. He was Forest's club captain throughout this period of success. Jimmy Gordon (footballer, Born 1915)
James Gordon (23 October 1915 – 29 August 1996) was a Scottish football player and coach. A native of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, Gordon played for Newcastle United and Middlesbrough as a wing-half. He later worked as a coach under Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Derby County and Nottingham Forest, and was assistant manager to Clough during his 44-day reign at Leeds United. In honour of his contribution, Gordon was allowed to lead out the Forest players at Wembley for the 1980 Football League Cup Final. Gordon retired as a football coach in May 1981.
