Iran–Iraq Relations
Iran–Iraq relations (Persian: روابط ایران و عراق ''Ravâbete Irân va Arâq''; Arabic: العلاقات العراقية الإيرانية ''Al-Halaqat Al-Iraqih Al-Iranyih'') are the diplomatic and foreign relations between the two sovereign states of Iran and Iraq. Both States have history that extends for millennia into the past. Iran and Iraq share a long border (the longest border for both nations) and an ancient cultural and religious heritage. In ancient times Iraq formed part of the core of Persia (modern-day Iran) for about a thousand years. Modern relations between the two nations turned increasingly negative following the 14 July Revolution in Iraq in 1958, and subsequent overthrow of the Hashemite Monarchy which resulted in the country withdrawing from the Baghdad Pact. The Ba'ath Party gained power in Iraq in the 1960s, taking a more aggressive stance on border disputes. In the aftermath of the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979, Saddam Hussein launch ... Sphere Of Influence
In the field of international relations, a sphere of influence (SOI) is a spatial region or concept division over which a state or organization has a level of cultural, economic, military or political exclusivity. While there may be a formal alliance or other treaty obligations between the influenced and influencer, such formal arrangements are not necessary and the influence can often be more of an example of soft power. Similarly, a formal alliance does not necessarily mean that one country lies within another's sphere of influence. High levels of exclusivity have historically been associated with higher levels of conflict. In more extreme cases, a country within the "sphere of influence" of another may become a subsidiary of that state and serve in effect as a satellite state or ''de facto'' colony. This was the case with the Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc after World War II. The system of spheres of influence by which powerful nations intervene in the affairs of others co ... Pakistan And The Iran–Iraq War
During the 1980s Iran–Iraq War, the foreign policy of Pakistan played a complex role in the war. According to the national security experts, the role of Pakistan in the war, however, was based more on maintaining a delicate balance. During the conflict, Pakistan sought to portray as strictly "neutrality (international relations), neutral" but cultivated friendly relationship with Iran. In a state visit paid by Pakistani President General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Zia-ul-Haq to the United Kingdom in the mid-1980s, he correctly predicted that the conflict "will end up in a military stalemate". Overview The Pakistani military initiated a covert regime change action under Chief of Army Staff (Pakistan), Chief of Army Staff General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Zia-ul-Haq and Chief of Naval Staff (Pakistan), Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Shariff by Operation Fair Play, imposing martial law in all of the country in 1979. After the 1953 Iranian coup d'état, Pahlavi had aligned with the United States and the Western Bloc to rule more firmly as an authoritarian monarch. He relied heavily on support from the United States to hold on to power which he held for a further 26 years. This led to the 1963 White Revolution and the arrest and exile of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1964. Amidst massive tensions between Khomeini and the Shah, demonstrations began in Octob ...
