1970–71 Baltimore Bullets Season
The 1970–71 season was the 10th season of the Baltimore Bullets in the NBA. This would be its first year in the newly created Central Division inside the Eastern Conference. Despite playing close to .500 basketball all season, the Bullets would capture the Central Division with a 42–40 record. Gene Shue
Eugene William Shue (December 18, 1931 – April 3, 2022) was an American professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Shue was one of the top guards of the early days of the NBA and an influential figure in the development of basketball. He is credited with having invented the "spin move" while being an early harbinger of other plays and strategies. Shue was an NBA All-Star five consecutive times (1958–62). After his successful playing career, he became a long-serving coach, twice winning NBA Coach of the Year. Throughout his career as player, coach, and executive, Shue was "a specialist at taking over faltering teams". Early life Shue was born in Baltimore on December 18, 1931. Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball
The Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represents the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I competition. Maryland, a founding member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), left the ACC in 2014 to join the Big Ten Conference. Gary Williams, who coached the Terrapins from 1989 to 2011, led the program to its greatest success, including two consecutive Final Fours, which culminated in the 2002 NCAA National Championship. Under Williams, Maryland appeared in 11 straight NCAA tournaments from 1994 to 2004. He retired in May 2011 and was replaced by former Texas A&M coach Mark Turgeon. 1970–71 Cincinnati Royals Season
The 1970–71 NBA season, 1970–71 Cincinnati Royals season was the 23rd season of the franchise in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After trading Oscar Robertson, the Royals became a quick, young team. Some players included Norm Van Lier, a second-year guard who would lead the league in assists with 10.1 assists per game. Draft picks Sam Lacey and Nate "Tiny" Archibald were new additions to the team. The Royals would continue its fast-breaking, high-scoring ways. During the season, they were held below 100 points only four times all season. The Royals also broke the 130 point mark an astounding 11 times. 1970–71 Buffalo Braves Season
The 1970–71 NBA season was the Buffalo Braves inaugural season in the NBA. With a roster made up primarily of castoffs, the Braves got off on the right foot by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 107–92 at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium on October 14. However, the Braves would drop their next nine as they took on established NBA teams on the way to finishing in last place in the Atlantic Division. Bob Ferry
Robert Dean Ferry (May 31, 1937 – October 27, 2021) was an American professional basketball player, assistant coach, and general manager (GM) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the St. Louis Hawks, Detroit Pistons, and Baltimore Bullets from 1959 to 1969. He then served as GM of the Bullets from 1973 to 1990, overseeing the franchise's only NBA championship in 1978. Early life Ferry was born in St. Louis on May 31, 1937, and was the oldest of four children. His father, Willard, worked at Fisher Body; his mother, Elsie, was a housewife who was also employed by Pet, Inc. He attended Cleveland High School, where he played baseball, before concentrating on basketball. Having been recruited by Eddie Hickey, Ferry then studied at Saint Louis University, where he received All-America honors during his senior year in 1959. The Oregon State Beavers men's basketball program, established in 1901, is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Northern Michigan Wildcats Men's Basketball
The Northern Michigan Wildcats are the athletic teams that represent Northern Michigan University, located in Marquette, Michigan, in NCAA intercollegiate sporting competitions. All teams that play under NCAA governance compete at the Division II level, with three exceptions. The most significant one is the men's ice hockey program, which plays at the Division I level. Two other sports, Nordic skiing (a coeducational sport with separate men's and women's squads) and women's wrestling (part of the NCAA Emerging Sports for Women program), are de facto Division I sports; the NCAA holds a single skiing championship open to members of all three divisions, and does not currently include women's wrestling in its divisional structure. Northern Arizona Lumberjacks Men's Basketball
The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks men's basketball team represents Northern Arizona University, located in Flagstaff, Arizona, in NCAA Division I men's competition. The school's team has competed in the Big Sky Conference since 1970. The team's most recent appearance in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was in 2000. The Lumberjacks are currently led by interim head coach Shane Burcar who replaced Jack Murphy in June 2019 after his departure for Arizona. Murphy took over as head coach in April 2012 after a disastrous season in which previous head coach Mike Adras resigned in December and the team lost its final 16 games.
