1970 World Cup (men's Golf)
The 1970 World Cup took place 12–15 November at The Jockey Club in San Isidro 28 kilometers north of the center of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was the 18th World Cup event. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 43 teams. 44 teams were invited, but the Czechoslovakia team of amateurs Jiri Dvorak and Jan Kunšta withdraw from the tournament before it began. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The Australia team of Bruce Devlin and David Graham won, with a record aggregate of 544, by eight strokes over the Japan team of Takaaki Kono and Haruo Yasuda. Australia held a record advantage of 19 strokes going into the final round. This was the third victory for Australia in the history of the World Cup, until 1967 named the Canada Cup. is a Japanese professional golfer. Yasuda played on the Japan Golf Tour, winning six times. He also won several pre-tour events in Japan and on the Asia Golf Circuit. In 1968 he nearly won the Thailand Open but double-bogeyed the final hole giving Australian Randall Vines the win. Hsieh Yung-yo (, born 23 October 1934) is a Taiwanese professional golfer. Hsieh had great success playing throughout Asia, winning 16 national opens. Most of those victories were on the Far East Circuit, later known as the Asia Golf Circuit, where he was also the circuit champion on four occasions. Hsieh Min-Nan (, born 9 August 1940), also known as Tony Hsieh, is a Taiwanese professional golfer. Hsieh won 11 events on the Japan Golf Tour. He won the 1972 World Cup with teammate Lu Liang-Huan and also won the individual title. Allan George Balding (April 29, 1924 – July 30, 2006) was a Canadian professional golfer, who won four events on the PGA Tour. In 1955 he became the first Canadian to win a PGA Tour event in the United States; Canadians Ken Black (1936 Vancouver Jubilee Open), Jules Huot (1937 General Brock Open) and Pat Fletcher (1954 Canadian Open) had won PGA Tour events in Canada. Biography Balding was born in Toronto, Ontario on April 29, 1924. Mário Gonzalez (22 November 1922 – 29 July 2019) was a Brazilian professional golfer. He was one of the first players from his country to have enjoyed success on the international circuit and was known as the "father of Brazilian golf". Amateur career As an amateur, Gonzalez had a great deal of success and built a reputation around the world. He won the Brazil Amateur Championship nine times, the Brazil Open twice, the Argentine Open in 1941, and the Spanish Open in 1947. He also played in several tournaments and matches in the United States; in 1941 he finished in a tie for sixth place in Chicago Open and tied a match with Bobby Jones. Flory Van Donck (23 June 1912 – 14 January 1992) was a Belgian professional golfer. Van Donck is widely regarded as the greatest ever Belgian golfer. Donald Swaelens
Donald Swaelens (1935 – 25 April 1975) was a Belgian professional golfer. Golf career Like his father Jules, Swaelens made his career as a club professional at Royal Latem Golf Club. He also worked as a touring professional, intermittently playing on the European circuit. He won the 1966 Woodlawn Tournament, played at the Ramstein Air Base in West Germany, the 1967 German Open, and the 1971 Agfa-Gevaert Tournament, also in West Germany. In 1972, Swaelens joined the European Tour during its inaugural season.
