1968 Wimbledon Championships – Mixed Doubles
Owen Davidson and Billie Jean King were the defending champions, but lost in the semifinals to Ken Fletcher and Margaret Court. Fletcher and Court defeated Alex Metreveli and Olga Morozova in the final, 6–1, 14–12 to win the mixed doubles tennis title at the 1968 Wimbledon Championships. Ken Fletcher
Kenneth Norman Fletcher (15 June 1940 – 11 February 2006) was an Australian tennis player who won numerous doubles and mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. Biography He was born in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia to parents Norm and Ethel Fletcher. He was educated at St Laurence's College and showed early promise as a championship tennis player there. His greatest success as a tennis player came in 1963, when he became the only man to win a calendar year Grand Slam in mixed doubles, partnering fellow Australian Margaret Court. He reached the final of the Australian Open in 1963, losing to Roy Emerson. After this achievement, he went on to record mixed doubles championships in the Australian Open in 1964, French Open in 1964 and 1965, and Wimbledon in 1965, 1966, and 1968. Galina Baksheeva
Galina Baksheeva ( rus, Галина Бакшеева; 12 July 1945 – 18 December 2019) was a Soviet tennis player from Ukraine. Born in Kyiv, Baksheeva won back to back Wimbledon junior singles titles in 1961 and 1962. Baksheeva was a 13-time champion of the USSR during the 1960s, twice in singles and the rest in women's doubles or mixed doubles. Toomas Leius
Toomas Leius (born 28 August 1941) is a former tennis player from Estonia who competed for the Soviet Union. Career Leius was the boys' singles champion at the 1959 Wimbledon Championships. He won the Soviet Championships in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1968. Other good performances during his career include reaching the final of the 1964 Queen's Club Championships, which he lost to Roy Emerson, and taking Rod Laver to five sets at the 1969 Heineken Open. He was a gold medalist in the mixed doubles at the 1970 Summer Universiade in Turin, with Tiiu Parmas. His best performance in the singles draw of a Grand Slam tournament came at the 1965 French Championships, where he made the quarter-finals. Fay Toyne (born 18 December 1943), also known by her married name Fay Toyne Moore, is a retired tennis player from Australia whose career spanned the 1960s. Toyne was a doubles finalist at the 1966 French Championships. Partnering Jill Blackman they were defeated in three sets in the final by compatriots Margaret Smith and Judy Tegart. In the singles event her best result at a Grand Slam event was twice reaching the fourth round. Heather Cecile Allen (born 1960) is a research chemist, who leads the Allen Group at Ohio State University. Allen's research focuses on interfacial phenomena, particularly those involving water and air. Her work has broad application ranging from medicine to climate change. She also develops nonlinear optical spectroscopy and microscopy instruments for the examination of interfacial surfaces. Allen has published more than 120 journal papers, and is reported to have an H-index of 43 as of August 2019. Christiane Mercelis
Christiane Mercelis (born 5 October 1931) is a Belgian former tennis player active in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1949, Mercelis won the Girls' Singles of the Wimbledon Championships. She competed every year at Wimbledon between 1951 and 1968, and at the French Open between 1952 and 1965. In the French Open, she reached the quarter-finals in 1957. Mercelis played for Belgium in the Federation Cup from 1963 to 1964 and from 1966 to 1969, losing all five singles matches, and winning two of her eight doubles matches.
