1967–68 WCHL Season
The 1967–68 WCJHL season was the second season of the Western Canada Junior Hockey League (WCJHL). The league adopted its new name after being known as the Canadian Major Junior Hockey League in its first season. Eleven teams completed a 60-game season, with the Estevan Bruins winning the President's Cup. The league dropped Junior" from its name the following season, operating as the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL) through to the completion of the 1977–78 WCHL season, renamed the next season as the Western Hockey League. Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a major junior ice hockey league based in Western Canada and the Northwestern United States. The WHL is one of three leagues that constitutes the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) as the highest level of junior hockey in Canada. Teams play for the Ed Chynoweth Cup, with the winner moving on to play for the Memorial Cup, Canada's national junior championship. WHL teams have won the Memorial Cup 19 times since the league became eligible to compete for the trophy. Many players have been drafted from WHL teams, and have found success at various levels of professional hockey, including the National Hockey League (NHL). Joe Zanussi
Joseph Lawrence Zanussi (born September 25, 1947) is a Canadians, Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 149 games in the World Hockey Association and 87 games in the National Hockey League. Zanussi's skating ability and agility earned him the nicknames 'Crazy Legs' and 'Tazmanian Devil' and although small for a pro hockey defenseman, Zanussi was a good bodychecker and possessed a big shot. Joe Zanussi began his hockey career where Rossland was able to field a BC Juvenile Finalist Team in 1964-65. Dale Hoganson
Dale Gordon Hoganson (born July 8, 1949) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 344 games in the National Hockey League and 378 games in the World Hockey Association between 1969 and 1982. He played for the Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, Quebec Nordiques, and Birmingham Bulls. Winnipeg Jets (WCHL)
The Winnipeg Monarchs were a junior ice hockey team that played in the Western Canada Hockey League from 1967 to 1977 under three names. The team played as the Winnipeg Jets from 1967 to 1973; the Winnipeg Clubs from 1973 to 1976, and the Winnipeg Monarchs from 1976 to 1977. The Monarchs franchise played at Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The team was the direct namesake for the Winnipeg Jets professional hockey club that began play in 1972; the junior Jets changed their name to disambiguate themselves in 1973. In 1977 the Monarchs moved to Calgary to become the Calgary Wranglers. They are today the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Ken Brown (ice Hockey)
Kenneth Murray Brown (December 19, 1948 – July 22, 2022) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. He played one game in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1971, and 52 games in the World Hockey Association with the Alberta/Edmonton Oilers between 1972 and 1975. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1968 to 1975, was spent in the minor leagues. Christopher John Worthy (October 23, 1947 – August 2, 2007) was a British-born Canadian ice hockey player who played 81 games in the World Hockey Association and 26 games in the National Hockey League between 1968 and 1976 with the Edmonton Oilers and California Golden Seals. Christopher John Worthy was born in Bristol, England, United Kingdom, but grew up in Ontario, Canada. He attended college at Harvard University. Gerry Hart
Gerald William Hart (born January 1, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 730 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings, New York Islanders, Quebec Nordiques, and St. Louis Blues between 1969 and 1982. Hart retired from the NHL in 1982 and began living off his investments. In October 1992, Hart, along with college roommates Thomas Mattioli and Randolph Nash, opened The Rinx recreation complex in Hidden Pond Park in Hauppauge, New York with a 20-year land lease from the Town of Islip. James David Harrison (born July 9, 1947) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 324 games in the National Hockey League and 232 games in the World Hockey Association. Estevan is the eighth-largest city in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is approximately north of the Canada–United States border. The Souris River runs by the city. This city is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Estevan No. 5. History The first settlers in what was to become Estevan arrived in 1892, along with the expansion of the Canadian Pacific Railway.
