1967 Manipur Legislative Assembly Election
Elections to the Manipur Legislative Assembly were held in February 1967 to elect members of the 30 constituencies in Manipur, India. The Indian National Congress won the most seats and its leader, Mairembam Koireng Singh was appointed as the Chief Minister of Manipur for his second term. Background After the passing of the States Reorganisation Act, 1956 and the ''Constitution (Seventh Amendment) Act, 1956'', Manipur was converted from a Part-C state to a Union Territory but, it wasn't assigned a Legislative Assembly. Later, after the passing of ''The Government of Union Territories Act, 1963'', Manipur was assigned a Legislative Assembly of 30 members. A delimitation commission was set up which included the members of the Lok Sabha who were representing Manipur at the time. Praja Socialist Party
The Praja Socialist Party, abbreviated as PSP, was an Indian political party. It was founded when the Socialist Party, led by Jayaprakash Narayan, Rambriksh Benipuri, Acharya Narendra Deva and Basawon Singh (Sinha), merged with the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party led by J. B. Kripalani (former president of the Indian National Congress and a close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru). It led the cabinet under Pattom A. Thanu Pillai as chief minister of State of Travancore-Cochin from March 1954 to February 1955. A section led by Rammanohar Lohia broke from the party in 1955, resuming the name "Socialist Party". It again came to power in the new state of Kerala under Pattom A. Thanu Pillai from February 1960 to September 1962. In 1960, Kripalani left the party and in 1964, Asoka Mehta joined Congress after his expulsion from the party. Mohammed Alimuddin
Mohammed Alimuddin (1920 in Thoubal district – 3 February 1983) was an Indian politician and a former Chief Minister of Manipur. He succeeded Mairembam Koireng Singh, as the Chief Minister of Manipur in 1972 for year and again for 127 days in 1974. He was member of Manipur Peoples Party. Career He was elected to Lilong in first Legislative Assembly election held in 1948. Scheduled Tribes
The Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) are officially designated groups of people and among the most disadvantaged socio-economic groups in India. The terms are recognized in the Constitution of India and the groups are designated in one or other of the categories. For much of the period of British Raj, British rule in the Indian subcontinent, they were known as the Depressed Classes.
