The 1966–67 NCAA University Division men's basketball season began in December 1966, progressed through the regular season and conference tournaments, and concluded with the 1967 NCAA University Division basketball tournament championship game on March 25, 1967, at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. The UCLA Bruins won their third NCAA national championship with a 79–64 victory over the Dayton Flyers. Season headlines * The NCAA tournament expanded from 22 to 23 teams. * UCLA went undefeated (30–0) and won its first of an eventual seven NCAA championships in a row, third overall, and third in four seasons. In the Athletic Association of Western Universities, it also won its first of what ultimately would be 13 consecutive conference titles. 1966–67 UCLA Bruins Men's Basketball Team
The 1966–67 UCLA Bruins men's basketball team won UCLA's third NCAA national championship under head coach John Wooden with a win over Dayton. The Bruins went undefeated, winning all 30 games. In the NCAA West Regional at Corvallis, Oregon, the Bruins beat Wyoming (109–60) and Pacific was played in Louisville, Kentucky, where UCLA defeated Houston (73–58) and Dayton (79–64). The Bruins were led by starters Lynn Shackelford, Kenny Heitz, Lew Alcindor, Mike Warren, and Lucius Allen. The Bruins entered the season ranked number 1, beginning what still stands today as the most consecutive weeks ranked in the AP poll. The streak ended at 221 weeks in January 1980. New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball
The New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team represents the University of New Mexico, competing in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) in NCAA Division I. The university established basketball as a varsity sport in 1899 and began competing with regional colleges after establishing an athletics department in 1920.
