The 1966 Sacramento State Hornets football team represented Sacramento State College—now known as California State University, Sacramento—as a member of the Far Western Conference (FWC) during the 1966 NCAA College Division football season. Led by sixth-year head coach Ray Clemons, Sacramento State compiled an overall record of 8–2 with a mark of 6–0 in conference play, winning the FWC title. The team outscored its opponents 205 to 102 for the season. The Hornets played home games at Charles C. Hughes Stadium in Sacramento, California. The Northern California Athletic Conference (NCAC) was an NCAA Division II college athletic association that sponsored American football that was founded in 1925. It disbanded in 1998 after the majority of its member schools were forced to drop football. 1967 Atlanta Falcons Season
The 1967 Atlanta Falcons season was the franchise's second year in the National Football League (NFL). Unable to improve on their 3-11, second-to-last place finish from their inaugural season, the Falcons finished with the worst record in the whole NFL, at 1-12-1. They failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The Falcons were shifted from the Eastern Conference to the Western with the addition of the New Orleans Saints for 1967. 1967 NFL Draft
The 1967 National Football League draft was conducted March 14–15, 1967, at the Gotham Hotel in New York City. It was the first common draft with the AFL, part of the AFL–NFL merger agreement of June 1966. This draft was delayed as new guidelines were established; redshirt (or "future") players were no longer eligible. It began on a Tuesday in mid-March; the previous two years the leagues held their separate drafts on the final Saturday of November, immediately following the college football regular season.
