Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983)
The Liga Española de Baloncesto (English: Spanish Basketball League), whose top division was known as Primera División (English: First Division), was the old 1st Tier level basketball league in Spain, from 1957 to the 1982–83 season. It was organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation, and it was contested by the best clubs of the country. In 1983, the clubs decided to create the Basketball Clubs Association, and transformed the top division into the new Liga ACB, although that league was also named Primera División until 1988. Format The league was played in a double round-robin format without playoffs. Two points were conceded for a winning game, one for a draw, and no points for the loser. The worst teams of each season were relegated to the second division (Segunda División, called Primera División B since 1978). FC Barcelona Bàsquet (English: FC Barcelona Basketball), commonly referred to as FC Barcelona () and colloquially known as Barça (), is a professional basketball club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Miles Aiken (born December 27, 1941) is an American former professional basketball player, coach of the British Olympic basketball team, and sportscaster of basketball and American football. He was a center in college for St. Bonaventure University in the 1960s, and averaged over 23 points a game before suffering a knee injury. After college, he played as a power forward in the EuroLeague. There, he won two championships with Real Madrid. He also won the FIBA Saporta Cup with Partenope Napoli. Aiken coached the British Olympic basketball team in the 1970s, and later became a sportscaster of basketball and American football. Early life Aiken was born in New York City. The 1966–67 FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup was the inaugural edition of FIBA's 2nd-tier level European-wide professional club basketball competition, contested between national domestic cup champions. It was contested by 19 teams, and it ran from December 1966, to April 1967. Ignis Varese defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv, in the final, to become the competition's first champion. Participants First round *Duvbo withdrew before the first leg and Dinamo București received a forfeit (2-0) in both games. **Originally, the champion of the Moroccan Cup was drawn to play against the Italian Champion, but no team of the North African country was designated to play this competition. The 1966–67 FIBA FIBA European Champions Cup was the tenth season of the European top-tier level professional basketball club competition FIBA European Champions Cup (now called EuroLeague). The trophy was won by Real Madrid, for the third time, at their home venue Pavilion at the Sports City of Real Madrid, after they defeated Simmenthal Milano 91–83. Competition system 25 teams.
