Chiayi County
Chiayi County (Mandarin pinyin: ''jiā yì xiàn''; Hokkien POJ: ''Ka-gī-koān'') is a county in southwestern Taiwan surrounding but not including Chiayi City. It is the sixth largest county in Taiwan. Name The former Chinese placename was Tsu-lo-san (), a representation of the original Formosan-language name ''Tirosen''. A shortened version, Tsulo, was then used to name Tsulo County, which originally covered the underdeveloped northern two-thirds of the island. In 1704, the county seat was moved to Tsulosan, the site of modern-day Chiayi City. Following the 1723 Zhu Yigui rebellion, the county was reduced in size. In 1787, the county and city were renamed ''Chiayi'' (; ) by the Qianlong Emperor to acknowledge the citizens' loyalty during the Lin Shuangwen rebellion. Legislative Yuan
The Legislative Yuan is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for 4-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system. Originally located in Nanking, the Legislative Yuan, along with the National Assembly (electoral college) and the Control Yuan (upper house), formed the tricameral parliament under the original 1947 Constitution. The Legislative Yuan previously had 759 members representing each constituencies of all provinces, municipalities, Tibet, Outer Mongolia and various professions. Until democratization, the Republic of China was an authoritarian state under Dang Guo, the Legislative Yuan had alternatively been characterized as a rubber stamp for the then-ruling regime of the Kuomintang. Kao Chin Su-mei
Kao Chin Su-mei (born September 21, 1965), also known as Chin Su-mei, May Chin and Ciwas Ali, is a Taiwanese politician and retired actress and singer. She is of Manchu and Atayal descent, Ciwas Ali being her Atayal name. In the 1980s and 1990s, she starred in many popular TV series and films including Ang Lee's ''The Wedding Banquet'' (1993). She also released several Mandopop albums. She retired from showbiz in 1999 following her diagnosis of liver cancer which she recovered from. Chin was elected into the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in December 2001, and re-elected in 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020, all in the Highland Aborigines electoral district. Yang Hung-duen
Yang Hung-duen (; born 3 September 1965) is a Taiwanese physicist. Yang was the president of National Sun Yat-sen University from 2008 to 2016, when he was selected to lead the Ministry of Science and Technology. Academic career Yang earned a bachelor's of science degree in physics from National Taiwan Normal University, and a doctorate in the subject from Iowa State University. Upon graduation in 1987, he returned to Taiwan for a teaching position at National Sun Yat-sen University. He was a visiting professor at Wayne State University from 1999 to 2000. Political career Yang led the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the National Science Council from 2001 to 2004, when he left for the Academia Sinica. Lee Chun-yi (; born 6 July 1965) is a Taiwanese politician who was elected to the Legislative Yuan as a representative of Chiayi district in 2012. He is a member of the Democratic Progressive Party. Kenneth Yen (; 23 May 1965 – 3 December 2018) was a Taiwanese entrepreneur who was listed as one of the richest people in the world. Biography Yen was born in Taipei, Taiwan to 嚴慶齡 and 吳舜文 Vivian Shun-wen Wu. He attended secondary school at in Taipei's Muzha District and later went to boarding school at The Pennington School. He attended Rider University in the United States where he studied business administration. He also received an honorary business degree from St. John's University.
