The 1965 Los Angeles mayoral election took place on April 6, 1965. Incumbent Sam Yorty was re-elected over James Roosevelt and six other candidates in the primary election. Municipal elections in California, including Mayor of Los Angeles, are officially nonpartisan; candidates' party affiliations do not appear on the ballot. Election During the campaign, James A. Ware criticized both Yorty and Roosevelt for favoring "federal intervention in city affairs" and "federal encroachment", while City Councilmember Billy G. Mills criticized Roosevelt for disenfranchising minority groups; McGee was criticized by Yorty for running to split the vote. "Bud" Brown Jr. (June 18, 1927 – January 26, 2022) was an American politician and publisher who served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from the 7th District of Ohio, from 1965 to 1983. The 1938 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives were elections for the United States House of Representatives to elect members to serve in the 76th United States Congress. They were held for the most part on November 8, 1938, while Maine held theirs on September 12. They occurred in the middle of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's second term. Roosevelt's Democratic Party lost a net of 72 seats to the Republican Party, who also picked up seats from minor Progressive and Farmer–Labor Parties. Multiple factors contributed to the Democratic decline. One main reason was the Recession of 1937. Edwin Washington Edwards (August 7, 1927 – July 12, 2021) was an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for from 1965 to 1972 and as the 50th governor of Louisiana for four terms (1972–1980, 1984–1988, and 1992–1996). A member of the Democratic Party, he served twice as many elected terms as any other Louisiana chief executive. He served a total of almost 16 years in gubernatorial office, which at 5,784 days is the sixth-longest such tenure in post-Constitutional U.S. history.
