1963 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament
The 1963 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the culmination of the 1962–63 NCAA men's ice hockey season, the 16th such tournament in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA history. It was held between March 14 and 16, 1963, and concluded with North Dakota Fighting Sioux men's ice hockey, North Dakota defeating Denver Pioneers men's ice hockey, Denver 6–5. All games were played at the McHugh Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Qualifying teams Four teams qualified for the tournament, two each from the eastern and western regions. McHugh Forum
The Boston College Eagles are an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. The team has competed in Hockey East since 1984, having previously played in the ECAC Hockey, ECAC. The Eagles have won five national championships, the most recent coming in 2012. List Of NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey All-Tournament Teams
NCAA All-Tournament team is an honor bestowed at the conclusion of the NCAA Division I ice hockey tournament to the players judged to have performed the best during the championship. The team is currently composed of three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender with additional players named in the event of a tie. Voting for the honor was conducted by the head coaches of each member team once the tournament has completed and any player regardless of their team's finish is eligible. The All-Tournament Team began being awarded after the first championship in 1948 along with an All-Tournament Second-Team. The second team was dropped after the 1969 tournament and it has remained a single team ever since except for 1976 when no team was selected. In recent years the regional tournaments have begun to name all-tournament teams of their own, making the NCAA All-Tournament team draw only from the teams and performances in the Frozen Four. Bill Staub
William M. Staub is a Canadian retired ice hockey left winger who was an All-American for Denver. Career Staub joined the varsity team at Denver in 1961, after the program had won consecutive national championships. A great many players had left after the 1961 title and the team regressed slightly in Staub's first season. Denver finished third in the WCHA tournament and missed out on the NCAA Tournament. The following season, Murray Armstrong's team rebounded and finished atop the conference with Staub leading the club in scoring. He was named an All-American and a All-WCHA First Teamer and helped the Pioneers capture the conference championship. Denver made the championship game that season, however, the team could not overcome a huge first period by North Dakota and fell 5–6. For his senior season, Staub was named team co-captain and led the team to a second-place finish in the WCHA. Marshall Johnston
Lawrence Marshall Johnston (born June 6, 1941) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player, coach and executive. He played as a defenceman for the Minnesota North Stars and California Golden Seals of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also coached in the NHL for the California Golden Seals, Colorado Rockies, and served as general manager of the Ottawa Senators. He was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1998. John Matheson (July 25, 1924 – January 24, 2011) was a Canadian sports journalist known for his wide coverage of sports for the ''Winnipeg Tribune'' from 1946 to 1980. Matheson was born on July 25, 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He began his newspaper career in 1946 with the ''Winnipeg Tribune''. He became the sports editor for the newspaper in 1959, a position he held until the newspaper ceased publication in 1980. Matheson covered a variety of sports, including hockey, curling and football with the Tribune, and on the radio, working with CJOB.
