The 1963 England rugby union tour of Australasia was the first overseas tour by the England national rugby union team. Scotland, Ireland and France had preceded England in embarking on short tours to the Southern Hemisphere, and the RFU can be criticised for not having understood that an itinerary of six hard matches including three Test matches in a mere 18 days is somewhat severe, especially when 2 Test matches, against different countries, fall within 4 days at the end of the trip. England National Rugby Union Team
The England national rugby union team represents England in men's international rugby union. They compete in the annual Six Nations Championship with France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. England have won the championship on 29 occasions (as well as sharing 10 victories) – winning the Grand Slam 13 times and the Triple Crown 26 times – making them the most successful outright winners in the tournament's history. Harlequin (; it, Arlecchino ; lmo, Arlechin, Bergamasque pronunciation ) is the best-known of the ''zanni'' or comic servant characters from the Italian ''commedia dell'arte'', associated with the city of Bergamo. Leicester Tigers (officially Leicester Football Club) are a professional rugby union club based in Leicester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. Phil Horrocks-Taylor
John Philip Horrocks-Taylor (27 October 1934 – 11 February 2021) was a rugby union fly half who played for Leicester Tigers between 1958 and 1963; he represented England 9 times between 1958 and 1964 and was selected for the 1959 British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand where he played in the third test. He was a Cambridge University blue in Rugby for 1956 and 1957. Career Horrocks-Taylor came up to St John's College, Cambridge in 1955 after playing in his native Yorkshire for Halifax and completing his national service at Catterick. Horrocks-Taylor joined Leicester in 1958, making his debut on 27 September against Harlequins at Twickenham, Horrocks-Taylor was described as a "brilliant half-back, who is the most talked young player about in rugger circles". Hartlepool Rovers F.C. are a rugby union club who play at The New Friarage, West View Road in Hartlepool. The club play in Durham/Northumberland 1, the seventh tier of the English rugby union system after being relegated from North One East at the end of the 2010–11 season. Fylde Rugby Union Club is a rugby union club based in Lytham St Annes, on the Fylde coast in Lancashire, England. The home venue is the Woodlands Memorial Ground on Blackpool Road in Ansdell and the first team play in English rugby's National League 2 North, the fourth tier of the English rugby union system, following their relegation from National League 1 at the end of the 2017–18 season. Malcolm Phillips
Malcolm Phillips is a former rugby union international player who represented England from 1958 to 1964. He was President of the Rugby Football Union in 2004–05, and also served on the International Rugby Board. Youth and playing career Phillips was born on 3 March 1935 in Prestbury. He was educated at Arnold School in Blackpool. He then went on to study history at Oxford University, Trinity College, where he played rugby representing the university. Phillips made his international debut on 1 February 1958 at Twickenham in the England vs Australia match. Of the 25 matches he played for his national side he was on the winning side on 11 occasions. Northampton Saints (officially Northampton Rugby Football Club) is a professional rugby union club from Northampton, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. Roger Hosen
Roger Wills Hosen (12 June 1933 – 9 April 2005) was an English rugby union player and cricketer. Early life He was born in Mabe and he first played rugby for Penryn while still at Falmouth Grammar School. He was an all round sportsman, who won ten England international rugby caps during 1963–67, played 54 games for Cornwall and also captained his county cricket team. Rugby International In 1955 Roger Hosen moved to Northampton, to teach at the grammar school, and was recruited to Northampton Saints. He played 250 games for the Saints, and scored 1,463 points. He was also taught games at Warwick School in the late 1950s and early 60s. In his one full season for England, Hosen established a record of forty-six points from five games. Mike Weston
Michael Philip Weston (born 21 August 1938) is a former international rugby union player and captain. Weston was capped twenty-nine times for England between 1960 and 1968, winning twenty-four caps as a centre and five caps as a fly-half.Griffiths, pages 1:36-1:41 He scored one try and one drop goal for England. He captained England five times, leading his country in all three matches of the 1963 England rugby union tour of Australasia, and then again in the final two matches of his international career in 1968. England won one and lost four of his matches as captain.
