1962 FIFA World Cup Qualification (CCCF And NAFC)
The North, Central American and Caribbean section of the 1962 FIFA World Cup qualification acted as qualifiers for the 1962 FIFA World Cup in Chile, for national teams which are members of the CCCF and NAFC. Seven teams participated in the tournament to compete for one place in the inter-confederation play-offs against a CONMEBOL team. Format The qualification structure was as follows: *First round: Seven teams were divided into three groups (one group of three teams and two groups of two teams) to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The winner of each group advanced to the second round. *Second round: Three teams which had advanced from the first round played home-and-away round-robin matches in one group. Juan Ulloa
Juan Ulloa Ramírez (February 5, 1935 – February 11, 2017) was a Costa Rican football player, who used to play as a striker. Club career Ulloa started his career in 1948 at Third Division side El Carmen de Alajuela and played the majority of his career for hometown club Alajuelense, but also had spells at Puntarenas, San Carlos, Uruguay de Coronado and Orión as well as abroad at Guatemalan side Aurora, in Mexico with León, four months with Real Betis in Spain and Unión Deportiva Canarias in Venezuela. Ulloa was top scorer of the Primera División three times, in 1959, 1960 and 1966, totalling 140 goals in the Costa Rica Primera División. He scored a record total of 247 goals in all competitions (league, cup, national team and internal club matches). He retired in 1970. International career Ulloa was also part of the Ticos, playing 27 games and scoring 27 goals. He was the national team's all-time goalscorer until Rolando Fonseca surpassed him in 2001. Al Zerhusen
Albert Ferdinand Zerhusen (December 4, 1931 – January 29, 2018) was a U.S. soccer midfielder who played extensively for the U.S. national team. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Biography When Zerhusen was five, his family moved from New York to Germany where he learned to play soccer. He moved back to the U.S. in 1950 and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio. However, he was soon after drafted into the Army. After a period stationed in Germany, Zerhusen was transferred back to a base in Cincinnati. In 1954, he played for the Armed Forces soccer team in Cincinnati. At the time soccer was not a truly professional sport in the U.S. so when Zerhusen left the Army, he remained an amateur with the Cincinnati Kolping Soccer Club. In 1956, he was selected for the U.S. team which competed in the 1956 Summer Olympics.
