Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive cycling jersey, jersey worn by the reigning World Cycling Championship, world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road bicycle racing, road racing, track cycling, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. Tom Simpson
Thomas Simpson (30 November 1937 – 13 July 1967) was one of Britain's most successful professional cyclists. He was born in Haswell, County Durham, and later moved to Harworth, Nottinghamshire. Simpson began road cycling as a teenager before taking up track cycling, specialising in pursuit races. He won a bronze medal for track cycling at the 1956 Summer Olympics and a silver at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Gastone Nencini
Gastone Nencini (; 1 March 1930 – 1 February 1980) was an Italian road racing cyclist who won the 1960 Tour de France, 1960 Tour de France and the 1957 Giro d'Italia, 1957 Giro d'Italia. Nicknamed ''Il Leone del Mugello'', "The Lion of Mugello region, Mugello" (from his birthplace Barberino di Mugello, near Florence), Nencini was a powerful all-rounder, particularly strong in the mountains. He was an amateur painter and a chain smoker. He was a gifted descender. "The only reason to follow Nencini downhill would be if you had a death wish", said the French rider Raphaël Géminiani. Joseph "Jef" Planckaert (4 May 1934 – 22 May 2007 rtbf.be. 22 May 2007 ) was a Belgium, Belgian racing cyclist. He is considered one of the best Belgian cyclists of the 1950s and 1960s. His best season was 1962, when he became Belgian National Road Race Championships, Belgian champion at the Citadel of Namur. Jean Stablinski
Jean Stablewski (21 May 1932 – 22 July 2007), known as Jean Stablinski, was a French professional cyclist from a family of Polish immigrants. He rode from 1952 to 1968, winning 105 races as a professional. He won the national road championship four times - 1960, 1962, 1963 and 1964. He was also world road champion in 1962, and won the Vuelta a España in 1958. Biography Jean Stablinski was born in Thun-Saint-Amand in the mining area of the Nord (French department), Nord department of France, the son of Polish immigrants. Jo De Roo
Johan de Roo (born 5 July 1937) is a Dutch former professional road racing cyclist between 1958 and 1968. During 11 seasons as a professional he had six victories in single-day classics, three stages of the Tour de France and one stage of the Vuelta a España. He had 46 wins as a professional. He was the most successful rider from Zeeland until the emergence of Jan Raas. Career details De Roo caught the eye in 1957 as a 20-year-old amateur when he took two stages in the Olympia's Tour as well as winning the Omloop van de Kempen. The following year he turned professional with the Dutch Magneet-Vredestein team, with which he stayed for two seasons. In 1960 he moved to the Helyett, which had Jacques Anquetil as leader. The 1961 UCI Road World Championships was the 34rd edition of the UCI Road World Championships, UCI Road World Championships. It took place on 2 and 3 September 1961 in Bern, Switzerland. It was the second time the championships were organized in Bern, after the 1936 UCI Road World Championships. The women's race took place on 10 August on the Isle of Man.
