Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. It forms a principal area, officially known as the City and County of Cardiff ( cy, Dinas a Sir Caerdydd, links=no), and the city is the eleventh-largest in the United Kingdom. Located in the south-east of Wales and in the Cardiff Capital Region, Cardiff is the county town of the historic county of Glamorgan and in 1974–1996 of South Glamorgan. Colin Baker (footballer, Born 1934)
Colin Walter Baker (18 December 1934 – 11 April 2021) was a Welsh professional footballer. A wing half, he spent his entire professional career playing for his home town club Cardiff City, making over 300 appearances during a 13-year spell with the ''Bluebirds''. He also won 7 caps for the Wales national team during his career and was part of the squad for the 1958 FIFA World Cup. Club career Born in Tremorfa, Cardiff, Baker had to play rugby at school, but preferred football, and soon joined Cardiff Nomads. Baker joined Cardiff City from Cardiff Nomads as an amateur in 1951. He became a part-time professional between 1952 and 1953 whilst completing his National Service in the Royal Air Force. He became a full-time professional in 1953. Peter Charles King (born 3 April 1943) is an English former professional footballer. He played his entire professional career at Cardiff City, making over 400 appearances in a fourteen-year spell between 1960 and 1974 putting him in the top five players with most appearances for the club. Career Born in Worcester, King began his career at his hometown team Worcester City before being spotted by Cardiff City and signing for the club in 1960. He made his league debut in October 1961 against Burnley as a right winger. During the early part of his career, King suffered from a chest illness that nearly forced him out of football before he managed to overcome it during the 1963–64 season. Brian Jenkins (footballer)
Brian Jenkins (born 1 August 1935) is a Welsh former professional footballer. During his career, he made over 100 appearances in the Football League during spells with Cardiff City, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers. Career Born in Treherbert, Jenkins played local amateur football for Cwmparc before being spotted by Cardiff City in 1956. After impressing in the club's reserve side, making his professional debut on 9 November 1957 in a 1–1 draw with Ipswich Town. After appearing in fifteen consecutive league matches at the start of the 1958–59 season, Jenkins was called up by Wales as a late replacement for Phil Woosnam for a match against England on 26 November 1958 but did not feature in the match. Mike Hughes (footballer)
Edward Michael Hughes (3 September 1940 – 20 December 2018) was a Welsh professional footballer who made 247 appearances in the Football League playing as a midfielder for Cardiff City, Exeter City and Chesterfield. Hughes then became player-manager of Southern League side Yeovil Town, before leaving in 1972 to become a coach at Torquay United. Barrington Gerard Hole (16 September 1942 – 25 March 2019) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a midfielder. A Wales international, he began his career with Cardiff City and made his professional debut as a teenager. Career Hole's father Billy had been a professional footballer and played for Swansea Town before World War II, making over 400 appearances and playing in the club's first ever fixture in The Football League. Steve Gammon
Stephen George Gammon (born 24 September 1939) is a Welsh former professional footballer. A Welsh under-23 international, Gammon's spent seven years with Cardiff City before a broken leg ended his professional career in 1965. Career Gammon was born in Swansea, but began his career at Cardiff City, after being spotted playing for Mumbles Boys Club at the age of sixteen. Alan Durban
William Alan Durban (born 7 July 1941) is a Welsh former international footballer and manager, whose career was at its peak between the 1970s and 1990s. He played in the Football League for Cardiff City, Derby County and was player-manager of Shrewsbury Town. He managed Stoke City (two spells), Sunderland and Cardiff City. Ronald Frederick Stitfall (14 December 1925 – 22 June 2008) was a Welsh professional footballer and Wales international. A one club man he played his entire career for his hometown club Cardiff City. Career Born in Cardiff, Stitfall was a keen Cardiff City fan, often attending games at Ninian Park before going on to join the club in 1939, making his debut in a wartime friendly at the age of 14 against Swansea Town. He went on to feature in a number of friendlies for the club before serving in the army for four years during World War II. Frank Rankmore
Frank Edward John Rankmore (21 July 1939 – 20 November 2022) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a defender for Cardiff City, Peterborough United, and Northampton Town. At international level, he made one appearance for the Wales national team. Career Rankmore was born in Cardiff and began his league career at Cardiff City after joining the club from local side Cardiff Corinthians in 1957.
