Mervyn Rose
Mervyn Gordon Rose AM (23 January 1930 – 23 July 2017) was an Australian male tennis player who won seven Grand Slam titles (singles, doubles and mixed doubles). Rose was born in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, and turned professional in 1959. He was ranked inside the world's Top 10 throughout much of his tennis career and represented Australia in the Davis Cup from 1951 to 1957. He was ranked World No. 3 in 1958 by Lance Tingay of ''The Daily Telegraph''. Rose won the singles title at the 1954 Australian Championships in Sydney, defeating compatriot Rex Hartwig in the final in four sets. Four years later, in 1958, he became the French singles champion after a straight-sets victory in the final against Luis Ayala. He coached numerous female and male players, including Billie Jean King, Margaret Court, Ernie Ewart, Michael Fancutt, Brett Prentice, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Eleni Daniilidou, Nadia Petrova, Magdalena Grzybowska and Caroline Schnieder. András Ádám-Stolpa
András Ádám-Stolpa (15 September 1921 – 8 November 2010) was a Hungarian champion tennis, basketball and ice hockey player. Ádám-Stolpa was on the Hungarian Davis Cup team in 1948 (the same year he won the Hungarian National Tennis Championships), 1949, 1952, 1954, 1955, and 1957–1960. Ádám-Stolpa advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1947 French Championships after defeating the second seeded American, Budge Patty. (In 1950, Mr. Patty won the men's singles championship at both Wimbledon and the French Open.) Mr. Stolpa played men's singles in the French Open again in 1948, 1954–1960, and 1965. Naresh Kumar (tennis)
Naresh Kumar ( hi, नरेश कुमार; pa, ਨਰੇਸ਼ ਕੁਮਾਰ, نریش کُمار) (22 December 1928 – 14 September 2022) was an Indian tennis player. He was the captain of the India Davis Cup team from 1989 to 1993. Early life Kumar was born in Lahore, Punjab, British India on 22 December 1928. Playing career Kumar played his first tournament at the 1949 Indian International Championships and reached the semi-finals. In the spring of 1949, he reached the final of the Northern Championships in England before losing to Tony Mottram. Later that year, he lost to George Worthington in the final of the East of England Championships. He began playing in the India Davis Cup team in 1952 and represented India for the ensuing eight years. Kumar advanced to the final of the 1950 Bombay tournament before losing to Narendra Nath in four sets. Wilhelm Bungert
Wilhelm Paul Bungert (born 1 April 1939) is a former German tennis player best known for reaching the 1967 Wimbledon final. He participated in the 1970 Davis Cup final as a player and in the 1985 Davis Cup final as team captain. Tennis career In 1962 the right-handed Bungert reached the quarterfinals of the International Australian Championships, the doubles finals of the International French Championships and the International Tennis Tournament of Monte Carlo. Bungert was ranked as high as World No. 4 for 1964 by Lance Tingay of The Daily Telegraph. Antal Jancsó
Antal Jancsó (28 October 1934 – 3 March 2023) was a Hungarian tennis player. Jancsó's ancestors were originally from Transylvania. Active on tour in the 1950s, Jancsó participated in Hungary's 1953 and 1954 Davis Cup campaigns. He won the Hungarian national doubles championship in 1956 with József Asbóth. In 1957, before the tiebreak was introduced, he played the longest ever French Championship match on record, losing a 83-game five set match to Bob Mark. He made the singles round of 16 at the 1958 French Championships, beating Bobby Wilson and Naresh Kumar en route. William Álvarez (tennis)
William Álvarez (15 December 1934 – 23 January 2022) was a Colombian-born Spanish tennis coach and former professional player. He relocated to Spain in the 1970s and became a world acclaimed coach. Born in Medellín, Álvarez was an eight-time Colombian national champion and a member of the country's Davis Cup team, debuting in 1959. Álvarez, who is known by his nickname of Pato, made the third round of the 1961 French Championships. William Arthur Knight (born 12 November 1935) is a former tennis player from Great Britain who competed on the amateur tour in the 1950s and 1960s.
