1957–58 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 1957–58 NCAA men's ice hockey season began in November 1957 and concluded with the 1958 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament's championship game on March 15, 1958 at the Williams Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was the 11th season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held and is the 64th year overall where an NCAA school fielded a team. This was the final season of play for the WIHL. The conference would return two years later as the WCHA. Williams Arena
Williams Arena is an indoor arena located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the home arena for the University of Minnesota's men's and women's basketball teams. It also housed the men's hockey team until 1993, when it moved into its own building, 3M Arena at Mariucci. The building is known as "The Barn", and its student section is known as "The Barnyard". Williams Arena is located on the southwest corner of the intersection of University Avenue and 19th Ave. SE in Minneapolis on the U of M's East Bank campus. It is in a neighborhood called Stadium Village, named for the old Memorial Stadium that stood there until its demolition in 1992. Colorado College Tigers Men's Ice Hockey
The Colorado College Tigers men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Colorado College. List Of Division I AHCA All-American Teams
The Division I AHCA All-American Teams are an annual honor bestowed by the American Hockey Coaches Association to the college hockey players judged to be the top performers in their division. Each team is composed of at least one goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards on ice hockey programs. At least one all-star team has been named by the since the start of NCAA tournament play in 1947–48 after the conclusion of either the regular season or the conference tournaments. Initially the All-American teams weren't named by ACHA. in the first ten years of the teams the players were selected by some combination of media members and team officials. Murray Massier
J. Murray Massier (born February 1937) is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward who was the Most Outstanding Player of the 1958 NCAA Tournament. Career After winning consecutive Abbott Cups with the Regina Pats, Massier began attending Denver University in the fall of 1956. With NCAA rules limiting players to just three years of varsity play, Massier played with the school's freshman team before joined the varsity squad the following season. In 1957, Massier was one of several sophomores, all part of Murray Armstrong's tremendous first recruiting class, who helped the program go from 5th in the WIHL to 1st (tied). The first conference title for the team earned them their first NCAA tournament bid as well with Massier being a huge reason why. The tournament Most Outstanding Player is an annual award given out at the conclusion of the NCAA men's ice hockey championship to the player to be judged the most outstanding. The award has been in effect since the adoption of a national championship tournament for the 1947–48 season. Harry Cleverly
Harry Leighton Cleverly (February 21, 1912 – December 3, 1968) was a college ice hockey and baseball coach for the varsity programs at Boston University for twelve seasons. He was also the head coach of the freshman football squad for his alma mater. Career Harry Cleverly came to Boston University in the 1930s, joining the ice hockey squad in 1935 and playing two seasons for the Terriers before graduating in 1937. Cleverly joined the staff of his former coach, Wayland Vaughan, as an assistant as well as joining the military before Boston University offered him the top job for both the ice hockey and baseball programs after World War II. The reconstituted ice hockey program played only 3 games in 1945-46 before returning to a more normal schedule the following season. While the Terriers had played well prior to his installation, it wasn't until Cleverly was in charge that Boston University became a power in ice hockey. The Spencer Penrose Award is awarded yearly to the top coach in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey by the American Hockey Coaches Association. The finalists for each year's award comprise the conference Coach of the Year winners from each Division I men's ice hockey conference, plus the coaches of the four Frozen Four teams. The Providence Friars men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Providence College. Michigan State Spartans Men's Ice Hockey
The Michigan State Spartans men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team that represents Michigan State University (MSU). The team plays at the Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Michigan, on the MSU campus. The current head coach is Adam Nightingale, who took over coaching duties on May 3, 2022, after Danton Cole was fired. Michigan State currently competes in the Big Ten Conference. The Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Michigan Technological University. The Minnesota Golden Gophers men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team at the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota.
