1957 All-Big Ten Conference Football Team
The 1957 All-Big Ten Conference football team consists of American football players chosen by the Associated Press (AP) and the United Press (UP) as the best players at their positions during the 1957 Big Ten Conference football season. The UP team was selected by the Big Ten head coaches. The 1957 Ohio State Buckeyes football team, under head coach Woody Hayes, won the conference championship and placed three players on the first team: halfback Don Clark (AP-1, UP-1); guard Aurealius Thomas (AP-1, UP-1); and end Leo Brown (AP-1, UP-2). Thomas was also selected as a first-team All-American by the AP and American Football Coaches Association. 1957 Big Ten Conference Football Season
The 1957 Big Ten Conference football season was the 62nd season of college football played by the member schools of the Big Ten Conference (also known as the Western Conference) and was a part of the 1957 NCAA University Division football season. The 1957 Ohio State Buckeyes football team, under head coach Woody Hayes, won the conference championship with a 7-0 conference record (9–1 record overall), was ranked No. 1 in the final Coaches' Poll, and defeated Oregon in the 1958 Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes were ranked No.2 in the final AP Poll, but were also declared national champion by the FWAA poll. Ohio State back Don Clark led the conference with 737 rushing yards. Jim Marshall (defensive End)
James Lawrence Marshall (born December 30, 1937) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive end for the Cleveland Browns (1960) and the Minnesota Vikings (1961–1979) in the National Football League (NFL). At the time of his retirement, he owned the career records for most consecutive starts (270) and games played (282), which both still stand as records for a defensive player in any position. Marshall is infamous for his 1964 "wrong-way run", a play in which he recovered a fumble and returned it 66 yards in the wrong direction into his own end zone, where he threw the ball out of bounds, resulting in a safety for the San Francisco 49ers. Nick Mumley
Nicholas Mumley, Jr. (January 26, 1937 – September 22, 2022) was an American professional football player who was a tackle for the New York Titans of the American Football League (AFL). Mumley was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, and attended Wheeling High School. He then enrolled at Purdue University where he played college football at the tackle position for the Purdue Boilermakers football team from 1956 to 1957 and 1959. He was selected by the International News Service as a second-team player on its 1957 College Football All-America Team. Thomas Anthony Franckhauser (May 26, 1937 – April 17, 1997) was an American football cornerback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Minnesota Vikings. Jim Van Pelt
James Sutton Van Pelt (November 11, 1935 – July 2, 2022) was an American professional football player who was a quarterback for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the Michigan Wolverines from 1955 to 1957. Playing in the CFL in 1958 and 1959, he led the Blue Bombers to consecutive Grey Cup championships and set league records with seven touchdown passes in a game, a 107-yard touchdown pass, and 22 points scored in the 1958 Grey Cup championship game.
