1955 Taça De Portugal Final
The 1955 Taça de Portugal Final was the final match of the 1954–55 Taça de Portugal, the 15th season of the Taça de Portugal, the premier Portuguese football cup competition organized by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). The match was played on 12 June 1955 at the Estádio Nacional in Oeiras, and opposed two Primeira Liga sides: Benfica and Sporting CP. Benfica defeated Sporting CP 2–1 to claim their eighth Taça de Portugal. José António Barreto Travassos (22 February 1926 – 12 February 2002) was a Portuguese Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), forward. Club career Born in Lisbon, Travassos joined Sporting CP in 1946 from G.D. Fabril, G.D. CUF. Albano Narciso Pereira (21 December 1922 – 5 March 1990), known simply as Albano, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a forward. Club career Born in Seixal, Setúbal District, Albano joined Sporting CP in 1943 at the age of 20, from local Seixal FC. Júlio Cernadas Pereira (13 January 1929 – 11 October 2007), commonly known as Juca, was a Portuguese football midfielder and coach. Most of his career was associated with Sporting CP, as both player and manager. Playing career The son of Portuguese parents who had settled in Mozambique, Juca was born in Lourenço Marques, and started playing professionally with local Sporting de Lourenço Marques as a goalkeeper. In 1949 he went to Portugal and joined Sporting CP, where he remained for nine years until his retirement at the age of 29 due to a knee injury, helping them win five Primeira Liga championships and the 1954 domestic cup. Otto Martins Glória (9 January 1917 – 4 September 1986) was a Brazilian football coach. Career Glória was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but had his greatest successes with Benfica in Portugal, guiding the club to nine national trophies. Francisco Luís Palmeiro Rodrigues (16 October 1932 – 22 January 2017), known as Palmeiro, was a Portuguese footballer who played as a forward. Club career Palmeiro was born in Arronches, Portalegre District. For eight years of his senior career he played with Primeira Liga side S.L. Benfica, leaving in 1961 after the emergence of Eusébio.
